PS3 Games Could One Day Get Emulated on PS5

As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming history under my belt, I can’t help but feel a surge of nostalgia at the prospect of seeing PlayStation 3 classics on my PlayStation 5. I remember the thrill of those PS3 days, the endless hours spent mastering the art of inFAMOUS or battling it out in Killzone 2.

The idea of revisiting these games on my current console is nothing short of exhilarating. However, I’m also a realist who understands the technical challenges involved. The PS3’s complex architecture makes emulation a daunting task, but if anyone can pull it off, it’s Sony.

I’ve seen hobby projects like RPCS3 work wonders, but commercial projects require a whole different level of polish and reliability. If Sony could make it happen, I’d be first in line to update my trophy collection on these classic games.

In the end, if we can emulate ancient civilizations in Assassin’s Creed or explore galaxies far, far away in Star Wars, surely we can bring back the PS3 era? After all, who wouldn’t want to relive the good old days of playing games on a console that was as heavy as a brick, but oh so worth it!

Oh, and let’s not forget the potential for Sony to release a PS5 emulator with a built-in “disc drive” simulator – just insert your old PS3 disc, wait five minutes for the loading screen, and then realize you don’t actually have a disc drive anymore. Classic!

The individual responsible for adapting PlayStation classics accessible through PS Plus Premium to both PS5 and PS4 is expressing a desire to incorporate PS3 compatibility into their custom Syrup emulator.

The emulator now works with multiple vintage gaming consoles, and can enhance their software with modern amenities such as Trophies. On its development plan, they mentioned they are exploring and experimenting with the feasibility of PS3 compatibility.

Keep in mind that these ideas are still being tested out and might not necessarily be viable solutions. Yet, the simple fact that efforts are being made is already promising news.

A lot of people express their disappointment that Sony hasn’t been more proactive in utilizing its older releases. However, we appreciate the improvements they’ve made in emulation, and we hope to see them take it a step further in 2025, by making even more classic games accessible on their contemporary devices.

Including the PS3 in its emulation endeavors could undeniably expand possibilities, potentially leading to re-releases of popular games like inFAMOUS and Killzone 2. However, Sony’s previous-previous generation system is known for its intricate architecture, which might pose challenges in achieving flawless emulation.

Emulators designed for PC that mimic the PS3’s functionality, like RPCS3, do exist and perform fairly well. However, it’s essential to understand the distinction between commercial projects and hobbyist software: creating a PS5 emulator would require rigorous testing to ensure it functions flawlessly without any bugs or errors, as it would need to pass quality control checks before being released to the public.

Additionally, it’s important to mention that if this were to happen, emulation is probably going to take place on a game-by-game basis. This means you won’t be able to just pop your PS3 games into your PS5 and start playing without further ado.

With all that said, would you like to see more classic PS3 games made playable on the PS5?
