The video game “Beyond: Two Souls,” originally released for PlayStation 3, is being transformed into a television series by Elliot Page’s company, Pageboy Productions. Known for its unusual and distinctive qualities among Sony’s third-generation home console games, the TV show is currently in preliminary stages of production following the acquisition of the TV rights from Quantic Dream.
As stated by Matt Jordan Smith, the head of development and production, the TV adaptation will pay tribute to the game’s historic significance while also introducing novel viewpoints. Elliot Page commented: “Filming this game was among the toughest and most rewarding acting experiences I’ve had in my career. The story’s intricate plot and profound emotional layers provide us with a strong basis. Our goal is to craft a distinct interpretation of the characters’ stories and journeys that strikes a chord with both dedicated fans and newcomers.
It isn’t clear at this point whether David Cage and Quantic Dream are participating, but according to Deadline’s article, David Cage appears excited about working with Elliot Page again. He was reportedly “thrilled” by Elliot’s acting in the game, stating that he couldn’t imagine anyone else bringing the same intensity to this story on another platform. As for Willem Dafoe, who played a role in the game, it remains unknown if he will reprise his character.
Known predominantly for Heavy Rain and Detroit: Become Human, Quantic Dream gained notoriety for its narrative-centric games during the PlayStation 3 (PS3) and PlayStation 4 (PS4) eras. Beyond: Two Souls was launched between these two titles as a rather late PS3 game, but later received an upgrade for the PS4. However, these games have not aged particularly well, as we pointed out in our Beyond: Two Souls PS4 review at the time.
Occasionally, the title ventures beyond typical development limits and explores ideas seldom considered, yet its narrative flow can be inconsistent, and heartfelt scenes are often undercut by extended instances of apparent foolishness.
