Nexon has announced that as of June 2025, support for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of their free-to-play shooter, The First Descendant, will be discontinued. This means that these older editions won’t receive any more updates or content, and they will become unplayable starting from June 19th, 2025. However, after this date, you will only be able to find the PS5 version of The First Descendant on the PlayStation Store.
The reason behind the developer’s decision to discontinue support for the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game is because, with the introduction of season three, these versions require a considerable amount of effort and resources to maintain due to the game’s growing scale. Consequently, Nexon has decided to cease support for them entirely and focus on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC versions instead. For players who have been playing on the PS4 or Xbox One, they will be able to move their progress over to the current-gen consoles by using the cross-save function.
Our development team decided to concentrate their efforts on enhancing player satisfaction as Season 3 is a significant update, which they refer to as a ‘mega season’.
Once the previous generation editions are discontinued, it signifies that “The First Descendant” had a lifespan of less than a year on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. When it debuted on PS5, our initial impression was rather poor, with it receiving a score of 3 out of 10.
Our analysis found: “The First Descendant boasts impressive Colossi battles, however, the build-up to these encounters is incredibly dull and uninteresting, making them less rewarding for the time and money spent. It’s like spinning a fidget spinner during a Discord call – it passes the time but doesn’t offer genuine enjoyment. This game seems more designed to encourage you to pay for skipping it rather than playing it, so its purpose is questionable.
