PS5 30th Anniversary Prices Leak Ahead of Release

As a seasoned gamer who has been around since the dawn of PlayStation, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and sticker shock at the upcoming 30th Anniversary lineup. The nostalgia factor is off the charts with these designs, but the prices are giving me flashbacks to my first job as a paperboy!

Information about the prices for some of PlayStation’s upcoming 30th Anniversary items, which were scheduled to launch later this week (September 26th), has been revealed prematurely. These include a PS5, PS5 Pro, DualSense controller, DualSense Edge controller, and a PlayStation Portal console modeled after the design of the original PlayStation console. Despite previous disclosures about each item’s details, Sony had kept secret their respective prices. However, in anticipation of the pre-order date, a recent report provides a clearer picture of the pricing structure for these items.

Based on Dealabs, we now have information about the prices for the regular PS5 console, the DualSense controller, and a special 30th Anniversary bundle. The standard PS5 Slim 30th Anniversary console package is reported to cost $499.99, which is a $50 price rise compared to the current base version of the PS5 Digital Edition. Meanwhile, the DualSense 30th Anniversary controller is expected to sell for $79.99. Despite the limited availability of this special edition controller, Sony isn’t raising its price and will sell it at the standard cost of most DualSense controllers.

The biggest question when it comes to price remains the PS5 Pro that Sony is selling. Unlike other items in this collection, the PS5 Pro is only being sold in a bundle that includes the console, a DualSense Edge controller, and a DualSense charging station. All of these accessories on their own would retail for over $900, but this bundle will also be very limited with only 12,300 in total being manufactured. As a result, some PlayStation fans believe that this PS5 Pro bundle could be sold for over $1,000, at a minimum.

Based on current pricing trends, it seems likely that the DualSense Edge and PlayStation Portal may not cost any more than their standard counterparts from Sony, which are priced at around $199.99 each. However, this is just speculation as official pricing details have yet to be announced, but we should find out soon enough.

Beyond unveiling their 30th Anniversary PS5 merchandise, Sony might still be holding significant announcements for this week. A new State of Play event is rumored to take place on Tuesday, September 24th, followed by a PlayStation appearance at the Tokyo Game Show 2024 towards the end of the week. Keep an eye out on ComicBook in the coming days as we’ll be sharing plenty more information with you over that period.
