PS5 and PS5 Pro Reportedly Has Stuttering Issues in Certain Titles With VRR Enabled

It seems that a problem related to Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) has been found in certain games on Sony’s PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro consoles. As per Digital Foundry, when VRR and an uncapped frame rate are activated for these specific titles, occasional stuttering occurs.

Approximately every eight seconds, it seems that certain game titles such as Hogwarts Legacy, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Elden Ring, God of War Ragnarok, Gran Turismo 7, Immortals of Aveum, and Dragon’s Dogma 2 were either affected or not. In the span of 20 to 30 minutes of testing, titles like God of War Ragnarok, Gran Turismo 7, Immortals of Aveum, and Dragon’s Dogma 2 appeared to be unaffected.

Digital Foundry conducted tests of these games across various TVs and identified a common problem. Additionally, they found that “Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2” doesn’t experience stuttering on the Xbox Series X. However, when switching to another input, this issue is temporarily resolved, but it’s not a permanent solution.

The video’s comments suggest that the issue might stem from a slight discrepancy in frequency. Since NTSC runs at approximately 119.88Hz, it’s plausible that the consoles are interpreting this as 120Hz, leading to the stutter. Additionally, it could be due to a software bug that certain developers use within Sony’s library. This bug might not affect all games, leaving some titles unaffected.

As a gamer, I’m waiting eagerly for updates from Sony regarding the current issue. Keep your eyes peeled for further details about potential solutions they might be working on.
