PS5 Exclusive Will Be Free With PlayStation Plus at Day One of Release

Starting from its release date, PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive a new exclusive game for the PS5 at no additional cost. This game won’t be available on any other console initially, but only on the PS5. However, there is no information yet about whether it might eventually come to Nintendo Switch 2 or Xbox consoles in the future. For now, it is confirmed that the game will debut on both PC and PS5 on August 19, and with a PS Plus subscription, you’ll be able to play it for free right from the start.

The game under discussion, titled “Sword of the Sea,” hails from Giant Squid Studio, creators of 2016’s Abzu and 2020’s The Pathless. You might recall that The Pathless was one of the PS5’s launch titles and was exclusive to PlayStation when it came out. Likewise, Abzu was a PS4 console exclusive at its release. This pattern suggests a possibility. Interestingly, both previous games did eventually become available on other console platforms as well.

The Sea’s Sword was initially unveiled in the year 2023, yet its launch date was just recently disclosed. Additionally, there had been no prior mention that it would be a PlayStation Plus title available on its release day.

The game you’re about to discover was created by the same imaginative artist behind ABZU, The Pathless, and Journey. In Sword of the Sea, journey through dreamlike, wavy landscapes known as the Necropolis in search of a forgotten ocean teeming with life. As you traverse a world where the ground ebbs and flows like waves, glide on a floating sword to cover vast stretches over shifting sands, magma, and ice seas. Gain momentum to reach high speeds and perform impressive jumps as you explore skatepark-like ruins that are constantly being swept by the tides of the Necropolis. Your mission is to reveal the ancient ocean buried beneath the land.

1. “This game is like Journey and Abzu, but you’re snowboarding instead. Composed by Austin Wintory. It’s an instant purchase for me,” says the comment on the video above.
2. “Let me tell you, this is going to be one of my top 5 favorite games ever!” reads another comment.
