Microsoft’s Xbox series has moved away from traditional physical media more rapidly compared to Sony. A significant number of its key games are released on near-empty discs if they are even made available in stores!
Even though the majority of PS5 games are bought digitally, it’s important to note that there’s a significant market for physical game releases as well. In fact, most Sony games come out on Blu-ray discs, and many consumers continue to purchase these boxed versions on the platform.
Initially, there was anticipation that Microsoft could produce physical editions of their games compatible with PS5. However, based on Forza Horizon 5 as an example, it appears they will not be doing so.
After announcing its release date this week, the official account of the open-world racer game has been flooded with queries from excited fans seeking a retail version. However, it has consistently replied in different ways, stating that at present, there are no plans for a physical edition.
That’s left a lot of fans disappointed.
One supporter suggested a change of mind, saying, “We really would appreciate it if you could take another look.” Another joined in, expressing the desire for a tangible version. They emphasized that, indeed, at PlayStation, resources are invested in this platform.
I’m curious if Microsoft might reconsider their decision, and potentially release physical copies for certain future titles such as Indiana Jones and the Great Circle among others. Here’s hoping they recognize the interest and start producing these games on Blu-ray once more.
