As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I can confidently say that the PlayStation 5 has been a game-changer (pun intended) since its launch. The latest numbers show that the console’s popularity remains strong, despite a slight dip in shipments this quarter compared to last year. With the PS5 Pro now in the market, it will be fascinating to observe how it influences Sony’s sales forecast for the rest of the fiscal year.
In addition to sharing sales figures for Astro Bot, Sony also disclosed updated shipment numbers for the PS5 as of September 30th. During this quarter, the console shipped 3.8 million units (which is a decrease from 4.9 million compared to last year). This brings its total number of units shipped globally to 65.5 million since its release.
In the recent quarter, combined software sales for both PS4 and PS5 hit an impressive 77.7 million units, marking a 10.1 million increase compared to the same period last year. Out of this total, approximately 5.3 million were first-party titles. Interestingly, digital downloads accounted for 70% of these sales, representing a 3% rise over last year but showing a 10% decrease from the previous fiscal quarter.
The number of monthly active users on PlayStation Network remains constant at approximately 116 million. Interestingly, this figure has seen a substantial increase compared to the 107 million reported for the same period last year.
Yesterday marked the release of the upgraded PS5 model, known as the PS5 Pro. It’ll be fascinating to observe how this new launch affects Sony’s financial predictions for the rest of their fiscal year. Dive into our article for a closer look at the console, and keep an eye out for future updates.
