PS5 Owners Don’t See Switch 2 as a Threat

It’s important to mention that Push Square isn’t owned by Nintendo. But since the unveiling of the potential successor to the Switch is happening now, it seems logical to discuss it from a Sony point of view. New hardware can influence the whole gaming market, after all.

After viewing the recent major Direct presentation, we invited Push Square readers to express their opinions about Nintendo’s latest system. In a special Poll article, we posed two queries: “Have the new features of the Switch 2 convinced you?” and “Could the Switch 2 potentially become your preferred console?

It’s intriguing how initial encounters with something novel, like a fresh console, often capture people due to their immersion in the excitement and anticipation that comes from the idea itself.

It’s quite intriguing to delve into the poll findings. More than 4,000 participants took part initially, and around 23% of them expressed their intent to purchase the Switch 2 on its launch day. However, do recall that we primarily cater to PlayStation enthusiasts!

Approximately 21% of respondents expressed definite interest, however, the results become quite divided from this point. Fifteen percent stated they’re undecided, while 20% and 22%, respectively, either stayed unconvinced about the console or were completely disinterested in it.

However, it’s the second query that catches our attention, as it provides context. When posed the question about whether the Switch 2 might supplant the PS5 as their main gaming system, the majority of respondents answered negatively. In fact, a significant 42% responded that the Switch 2 would serve as a “secondary console”, while another 34% flat-out denied the possibility.

Although there appear to be significant strides made in hardware development, it’s looking likely that the Switch 2 might be perceived similarly to its original version – particularly among gamers who are more inclined towards PlayStation and frequent gaming websites such as Push Square.

At first glance, it appears as though it’s a supplementary system. While many PlayStation enthusiasts express interest in purchasing one, relatively few intend to primarily rely on it for their gaming needs.
