After a 24-hour outage of the PlayStation Network (PSN) from February 7 to February 8, affecting both PS4 and PS5 users globally, Sony has restored service and issued an apology. Since then, positive developments for PlayStation enthusiasts have been shared through two separate updates.
The exciting news first, although not as sensational, revolves around Monster Hunter Wilds, one of the most awaited games in 2025. As fans of Monster Hunter might be aware, Open Beta Test 2 started on February 7 and will end on February 10. Unfortunately, due to a lack of PSN access, PS5 users couldn’t join the 24-hour test during this period. However, a second testing wave is scheduled between February 14 and February 17. Capcom hinted that they may extend the testing by an additional 24 hours at a later date to compensate for the time missed by PS5 users due to the PSN outage, allowing them another opportunity to participate.
Dear PS5 Monster Hunter players, appreciate your patience and understanding during our recent problems with the PlayStation Network this weekend,” says a fresh update from the Monster Hunter X team. “Since the outage affected the Open Beta Test 2 play time, we’re contemplating extending it by an extra 24 hours at a later date to compensate. The specifics and timing are still being worked out, so keep an eye on our updates for more information.
For enthusiasts of Monster Hunter, this announcement undoubtedly brings delightful news. However, the positive tidings extend beyond this community. In fact, Sony has decided to bestow an additional five days of PlayStation Plus to all existing subscribers of the service.
The Ask PlayStation X team just announced that all network services are now functioning normally after resolving an operational problem,” the new post reads. “We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused and appreciate your understanding. As a gesture of goodwill, all PlayStation Plus members will receive an extra 5 days of service.
Regrettably, individuals who aren’t subscribed to PS Plus and aren’t fond of Monster Hunter might find themselves with limited options, as for now, they can only rejoice in the fact that the PSN is back online, and it’s running smoothly since its return.
Sony (PlayStation’s parent company) hasn’t shared any information yet about how they plan to prevent a similar-scale PSN outage from happening again in the future. To clarify, this recent outage was the second longest one ever experienced by PlayStation Network, trailing only behind the massive 2011 PSN hack that left the network down for an unprecedented 24 days, not just 24 hours.
