PS5 Price Increase Announced by Sony for 4 Major Regions

After pondering about the PS5’s price, Sony has shared some unexpected news: they plan to boost the cost of the console in three primary markets. Typically, video game consoles experience a decrease in price post-launch, but this trend won’t apply to the PS5 as its price is set to rise almost five years after its debut.

In a recent update on their PlayStation Blog, Sony has announced an upcoming price rise for the PS5 console in Europe, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. This increase is attributed to economic difficulties such as high inflation rates and volatile currency exchanges, causing them to make this tough call. The standard version of the PS5 will retain its cost in Europe and the UK, but it will rise in Australia and New Zealand. However, the price for the PS5 Pro model remains constant across all regions.

Here is the new pricing structure for the PS5 in all of these regions:

  • Europe: PS5 Digital Edition €499.99
  • United Kingdom: £429.99
  • Australia: PS5 Standard Edition AUD $829.95, PS5 Digital Edition AUD $749.95
  • New Zealand: PS5 Standard Edition NZD $949.95, PS5 Digital Edition NZD $859.95

One positive aspect to note is that the disc drive for the PlayStation 5 will be available across all regions. This might not directly affect those who prefer to buy their PS5 games digitally, but it seems Sony is prepared to absorb some additional costs associated with the production of these separate disc drives, which in turn increases the overall price of the PS5 console.

Here’s what the new pricing structure will be for PS5 disc drives in these territories:

  • Europe: €79.99
  • United Kingdom:  £69.99
  • Australia: AUD $124.95
  • New Zealand: NZD $139.95

Starting tomorrow, April 14th, these new costs associated with the PS5 will become effective right away. However, it’s yet to be determined if there will be further price increases for the PS5 in both the U.S. and Canada.
