PS5 Pro Name, Design Leaked

As a seasoned PlayStation enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of gaming consoles since the dawn of the PS1 era, I must say that the latest revelations about the PS5 Pro have me buzzing with excitement! The prospect of a more powerful console is always enticing, and the fact that it might be called simply “PlayStation 5 Pro” or “PS5 Pro” seems fitting.

Fans of PlayStation might have received their initial solid information about the anticipated mid-generation upgrade for the PlayStation 5, codenamed the “PlayStation 5 Pro.” This is according to trusted leaker and insider, billbil-kun, who suggests that Sony will stick to a straightforward name for this new console, referring to it as either the “PlayStation 5 Pro” or simply “PS5 Pro.” Furthermore, following what seemed like a hint from Hideo Kojima about a new PlayStation console in development, we may now have an idea of the PS5 Pro’s design based on a drawing by billbil-kun and Dealabs.

The Dealabs report opened with the name of the console, though it should come as little surprise that PlayStation would call the PS5 Pro as such given that it had the PS4 and then the PS4 Pro in the last generation of consoles. As for the design of the PS5 Pro, Dealabs shared a sketch which was said to be based off of the final packaging that the new PS5 console will be sold in. It appears then that the outlet hasn’t actually seen the unboxed PS5 Pro itself, but based on what was seen, the sketch below was provided to offer an example of what the PS5 Pro might look like. It’s supposedly going to be white with three black stripes running down both faceplates, though considering how PlayStation has put out special editions of PS5 in the past, it’s only a matter of time before we see some more colorful PS5 Pros.

It’s noteworthy to mention that Dealabs anticipates the PS5 Pro to be able to use faceplates designed for the newly unveiled, slimmer versions of the PS5 (PS5 Slim), which are gradually replacing the original PS5 models. Regarding personalizing your PS5 Pro, Dealabs speculates this design similarity could mean that the faceplates for the PS5 Slim consoles might be interchangeable with the PS5 Pro, offering a refreshing contrast to the incompatibility between base PS5 faceplates and smaller PS5 Slim consoles.

Although reports on the PS5 Pro are certain about certain aspects, such as the DualSense controller not receiving an upgrade alongside the PS5 Pro, there are still some uncertainties. For instance, it is undecided whether the PS5 Pro will come with a disc drive or if it will be solely digital. The design that Dealabs observed lacked a disc drive, so it’s uncertain if another version with this feature exists.

It’s anticipated that PlayStation may unveil the PS5 Pro soon, perhaps as early as the first half of September. Similarly, there are rumors among Nintendo fans that the Nintendo Switch 2 might be announced in September, considering that Nintendo has already held two Directs earlier than planned. If these predictions hold true, it could make for a very eventful month.
