As a seasoned gamer with decades under my belt, I’ve seen consoles come and go, but none have left me quite as perplexed as this new PS5 Pro. I’ve been a loyal Sony fan for years, but this boot-up fiasco has me scratching my head.
A recently unveiled PS5 Pro video has left some PlayStation enthusiasts surprised due to a noticeable downgrade when compared to the Xbox Series X. Launched in 2020, the Xbox Series X went head-to-head with the PS5 as their respective flagship consoles. Sony’s latest offering, the PS5 Pro, is meant to be an improved version of the original PS5 and, by extension, the Xbox Series X. In many aspects, it lives up to expectations; however, there’s one significant area where it falls short.
Compared to the $700 price tag of the PS5 Pro, many Xbox Series X buyers can snag their console for just $400. This $300 difference might lead one to assume that the PS5 Pro would excel in every aspect over the Xbox Series X, but this isn’t the case. A recent video comparison has shown that while the PS5 Pro boasts quicker loading times, it takes significantly longer to start up the console itself. In fact, it takes much more time than the Xbox Series X.
Compared to the Xbox Series X, which starts up in around 14 seconds after the power button is pressed, the PS5 Pro requires approximately twice as long, amounting to about 28 seconds before it begins accepting user input.
While 14 seconds might not appear significant on its own, it can accumulate quickly, especially if you only switch on your device daily. Over an entire year, those 14 seconds add up to almost two hours. For some users, this time may seem insignificant, but for heavy users who use their console more often than once a day, the total could be much greater.
PS5 Pro vs Xbox Series X
Which system boots up faster?

It’s important to note that a longer boot-up time for the PS5 might offer some advantages, as it allows the system more time to load and optimize the UI and OS, which could result in improved stability over faster initial boot speeds. However, the difference between the PS5’s UI/OS and that of the Xbox Series X is not particularly noticeable. It’s unclear if this has anything to do with the boot-up times, but it’s certainly not a positive aspect for a high-end premium console to perform less optimally compared to a console that costs significantly less and is several years older. This is particularly problematic when the competitor’s console is involved.
Currently, Sony (PlayStation) has not provided any information or explanation regarding the boot-up time of the PS5 Pro. Should this change, we will promptly update our story. For comprehensive coverage on the PlayStation 5 Pro, including the latest news, rumors, leaks, and deals, follow this link.
