PS5 Tipped to Top Switch 2 Sales in the US This Year

It’s predicted that the PlayStation 5 will outperform the Switch 2 in U.S. sales this year, even as excitement for Nintendo’s upcoming device hits a high note.

According to Circana analyst Mat Piscatella, he expects the as-yet unannounced appliance to be sold in 4.3 million units within the U.S. this year if it’s launched during the first half. However, Nintendo has yet to make an official announcement about the new device, despite a flurry of leaks surfacing over recent weeks.

He predicted that Nintendo’s upcoming hardware device would sell around 4.3 million units in the United States by 2025, which is roughly a third of all video game consoles sold that year (excluding portable PC devices).

For the next few months, I anticipate that we’ll face hardware limitations due to a strong early demand spike. The number of units we can sell will undoubtedly be influenced by our manufacturing capacity.

“I still expect PS5 to rank first in overall hardware units sold in the US during the year.”

It’s clear that Sony holds an edge as its console can currently be purchased, while there’s uncertainty surrounding the release date, price, and production capacity of the Switch 2 from Nintendo.

Globally, the PS5 has been leading in hardware sales as the Nintendo Switch has entered its maturity stage and the Xbox Series X|S hasn’t managed to attract a significant global audience. Forbes recently reported that Sony’s console was sold five times more than Microsoft’s worldwide in November, although it should be noted that November marked the launch of the PS5 Pro.

Sony’s current system is performing favorably and selling approximately as fast as the PS4, but at a higher cost. To keep up the success of the PS5, Sony might need to explore methods to reduce the price, as the PS4 was significantly less expensive during its comparable phase in production.
