Sony has rolled out a new firmware upgrade for the PlayStation 5, labeled as version 25.02-11.00.00. This update enhances the details provided in Activity cards, while ensuring that any game spoilers remain concealed from players who haven’t reached those specific sections of their games yet.
Taking everything into account, this update for the PS5 can be seen as a modest one, as it primarily offers enhancements such as compatibility with Unicode 16.0 emojis in PSN messages and expanded parental control options through adjustable restriction levels. Additionally, there are overall improvements to system software performance, stability, and message functionality, aimed at enhancing user experience.
The announcement arrives slightly later, following Sony’s reveal of their Beta Program Initiative. Under this new venture, PlayStation is planning to offer players a more immersive experience with in-depth beta testing. This initiative allows players to trial beta versions of games and PS5 software features, updates for the PlayStation App, and even PC adaptations of PlayStation games.
For several years, numerous individuals have joined different beta tests at Sony Interactive Entertainment, contributing significantly to providing top-tier gaming experiences globally. We are deeply appreciative for your involvement in these projects. -Sid Shuman, SIE Content Communications senior director (PS Blog post)
I’m thrilled to announce the introduction of the Beta Program at PlayStation. This initiative offers gamers a simpler and unified method to enroll in taking part in future PlayStation beta tests, spanning various PlayStation gaming experiences.
Regarding software development, Sony and AMD have been collaborating on Project Amethyst. This collaboration aims to enhance their AI-driven super-resolution technologies. By partnering with Sony, AMD gains access to training data that assists in refining FSR 4. On the other hand, Sony leverages this partnership by integrating some of these advancements into its PSSR technology, which is accessible on the PS5.
Sony is making efforts to make its gaming console more accessible to people who might not have the means to buy it outright. In the UK, they’ve partnered with rental company Raylo, allowing individuals to rent a PS5 starting at £10.99 per month for the digital edition.
Last month, the PlayStation VR2 underwent a price reduction, dropping from its initial price of $549.99 to $399.99. With this lowered cost, Sony aims to boost sales for their virtual reality headset.
