The PlayStation 5’s exclusive 3D platformer, Astro Bot, has broken records by earning an impressive 104 “Game of the Year” recognitions across various platforms, making it the most awarded game in its genre to date.
Based on a tracking website that monitors Game of the Year awards given by qualified media sources, the current tally (which may still increase) has already surpassed the previous record holder, It Takes Two, with 104 awards compared to its 88.
Although Astro Bot doesn’t hold the record for the most Game of the Year (GOTY) awards overall, as per records available since 2013, it stands out as the platformer with the highest number of awards. Given that the number of awards given in recent years has significantly increased compared to earlier times, it’s quite plausible that Astro Bot still holds the record even without accounting for historical data.
For the year 2024, we bestowed upon Astro Bot our highest accolade, and our audience concurred, declaring it their most preferred game from the previous year too.
The fact that it was successful during award season doesn’t come as a shock, considering the positive response it got from both critics and audiences alike.
Are you taken aback that this game has earned more Game of the Year (GOTY) awards as a platformer than any other? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
