Update #10 [Saturday, February 8th, 8:30 PM 2025]: The PlayStation Network (PSN) seems to be showing signs of coming back online, with numerous accounts of successful connection tests and login attempts surfacing on social media.
If we consider this to be the conclusion of the disruption, it ran continuously for approximately 20 hours starting from 11:00 PM Greenwich Mean Time on February 7th, 2025, and ending at 8:30 PM GMT on February 8th, 2025.
Sony has not issued a statement on the downtime, and we still don’t know what the actual cause was.
Update #9 [Sat 8th Feb 2025, 7pm]: It’s nearly 20 hours since the PlayStation Network initially stopped functioning. So far, we haven’t received any detailed updates from Sony beyond their usual social media posts acknowledging the problems persisting.
As I sit down to game today, it feels like Sony’s PlayStation Network is a bit unpredictable. Strangely enough, some players are successfully jumping into online games, while others are smoothly communicating through messages or adding new titles from their collection without any hiccups.
It’s all a bit up and down, then, but make no mistake — the vast majority of PS5 and PS4 users are still running into the dreaded WS-116449-5 error code.
As a gamer, I can feel the countdown ticking, we’re nearing the 24-hour threshold. That’s when the real queries start popping up.
Update #8 [Sat 8th Feb 2025, 3:30pm]: It appears that a significant number of PS5 and PS4 users can now utilize specific online functionalities, such as viewing their friends list and portions of the PlayStation Store. Furthermore, some users are stating they can download games from their library.
However, it looks like most people are still being hit with the WS-116449-5 error code whenever they try to access anything connected to the PSN, and online games remain unplayable.
Although these findings could imply a gradual revival of the network, it would be premature to feel overly optimistic about its current status at this point in time.
Sony still hasn’t released an official statement on the outage.
Update #7 [Saturday, February 8th, 2:30pm]: The PlayStation Network has been offline for approximately 15 hours, and as more people in North America are waking up, there’s an increase in discontent on social media platforms.
A significant number of users are advocating for reimbursement, whereas others are growing apprehensive, suspecting it could be a large-scale cyber assault on Sony’s service.
It seems that so far, we don’t have definite proof about this matter; however, the lack of communication from PlayStation is adding to the uncertainty.
A large company such as Sony tends to keep silent on any public matters until they are completely certain of the situation, and if they do speak up, they will weigh their PR decisions thoroughly.
I wish the situation were different, but for now, it seems we must be patient and wait until we have more information about how long the outage will last. If PlayStation provides an update or if anything else changes, we’ll make sure to keep you informed by updating this article.
Update #6 [Sat 8th Feb 2025, 11am]: We’re now fast approaching 12 hours of total PSN downtime, with users still running into the WS-116449-5 error code (which basically just means that your console can’t establish a network connection).
Beyond the usual posts on social platforms, PlayStation hasn’t disclosed any extra details about the service interruption as of now.
Over the past few hours, it appears parts of the network, including messaging and game verification systems, have come back online. However, it’s evident that the majority of users are still unable to log in or perform tasks requiring an internet connection.
Currently, the official PlayStation Network Service Status page shows it’s entirely down, indicated by a red color code. This means the entire network is offline.
Surely, it’s nearly noon in Europe where we are, and if this issue isn’t resolved soon, the feelings of annoyance will only grow bigger.
Update #5 [Sat 8th Feb 2025, 6:15am]: PSN has been down and offline for over six hours now.
In many Asian regions, users have been unable to access or utilize online functionalities on their PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 for a significant portion of the day. Conversely, in Europe, people are just beginning their day, unaware that the issue persists. We’re certain that everyone will be disappointed to learn about the ongoing outage.
So far, PlayStation’s primary social media platforms haven’t provided any comments regarding the current situation. Regrettably, details are still sparse. Here’s hoping for some clarity from the PlayStation Europe team in the coming hours.
On Saturday, February 8th, 2025 at 2am, PlayStation’s English-speaking customer support team on social media has officially confirmed the continued issue with the PlayStation Network (PSN).
Some users may encounter problems with PlayStation Network at this moment. Here’s a link to our PSN Service Status page, where you can see all parts of the network are currently reporting issues.
It’s clear that the feedback on these social media posts has been far from favorable. To put it mildly, describing some users as encountering issues is a significant understatement. Preliminary observations suggest that this might be a widespread outage affecting not just a few but potentially all PlayStation Network users, which means every PS5 and PS4 user could be affected.
Should it continue for much longer, we’d expect PlayStation to release an official statement.
Update #3 [Sat 8th Feb 2025, 1:15am]: Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan has acknowledged the PlayStation Network outage and is currently investigating the cause. They appreciate users’ understanding as they strive to fix the issue promptly.
Despite our current lack of knowledge about the specific issue at hand, it’s important to note that it’s been quite some time since we’ve experienced a PlayStation Network outage of this scale. Even though the network has only been offline for a couple of hours, new reports regarding the problem are still pouring in.
In Europe right now, it’s quite early, which means PlayStation’s European channels are probably quiet for a while.
In the meantime, we’ll update this article again if PlayStation US breaks its silence.
Second Update [Saturday, February 8th, 2025, 12:40 am]: The entire PlayStation Network has been unavailable for more than an hour now, as per our current understanding.
PlayStation is yet to comment on the outage across any of its social media channels.
Update #1 [Sat, Feb 8th 2025, 12am]: The status page for PlayStation services has been revised, indicating that all parts of the PlayStation Network are currently facing problems. It’s approximately 45 minutes since the service disruption started.
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve noticed that PlayStation has been unusually quiet on their social media channels regarding the recent downtime issues. However, if this continues, it’s only a matter of time before they address the situation.
It seems like this outage is spreading rapidly, as more and more people are reporting it.
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve found myself in a bit of a pickle today. Seems like my beloved PlayStation Network isn’t functioning as it should, leaving me (and probably many others) unable to enjoy my PS5 or PS4 games. It appears the issue might be affecting most, if not all players at the moment.
20 minutes back, I started noticing some issues. Seems like this problem has been spreading rapidly. As far as I can tell, it’s a complete blackout – I can’t log in, can’t access any online content, and can’t even play my favorite games online.
It’s surprising to note that according to the official PlayStation Network Service Status page, everything seems fine as I write this. However, it appears there might be issues, so we’ll have to keep an eye on the page for any updates.
We’ll also update this story as soon as we know more.
Essentially, significant PlayStation Network (PSN) troubles have been scarcely seen for quite a while. Occasional minor downtimes have occurred occasionally, but Sony generally resolves any glitches promptly. Here’s to hoping they can swiftly handle this situation too.
