At the start of High Potential, Morgan is employed as a cleaner for the LAPD. However, while working one night, she accidentally uncovers a clue that significantly broadens an ongoing case. As a result, Morgan finds herself becoming a consultant to a team of detectives.
Throughout the 13 episodes of season 1 in the series “High Potential”, Morgan applied her unique intellect (with an IQ of 160), unconventional approaches, and creative methods to aid the LAPD in resolving cases. Initially, Rodriguez was in charge of directing episode 7, titled “One of Us,” during season 1 of High Potential, which also functioned as the mid-season finale. This episode saw Morgan and her daughter, Ava, being taken hostage at the LAPD when two soldiers from the military barged in, claiming that their friend was falsely accused of murder and insisting that the police release him. In “Let’s Play,” a kidnapper with a penchant for games began to torment the characters, and even managed to abduct Oz.

Disney+ shared photos from the set of “High Potential” season 2 on Facebook to signal that filming had started, and one of these images indicated that James Roday Rodriguez is directing the first episode. The backstage shots from “High Potential” season 2 showed Kaitlin Olson, Daniel Sunjata, Judy Reyes, Deniz Akdeniz, and Javicia Leslie holding a sign for episode 1, which clearly displayed the director’s name – James Roday Rodriguez.
