Actress Britt Lower, who played roles requiring compartmentalization between work and personal life in two seasons of Apple TV+’s “Severance”, now stars in the film “Psycho Therapy: The Shallow Tale of a Writer Who Decided to Write About a Serial Killer”. This movie, unlike “Severance” which delves into sci-fi, explores the significance of separating professional and personal lives with a more realistic approach. The title itself hints at the unique storytelling possibilities presented in this production. “Psycho Therapy” will be released in cinemas nationwide and available on demand starting April 11th.
The description “Psycho Therapy” can be rephrased as follows: “A writer going through a divorce develops an unusual friendship with a former murderer. By day, this retired serial killer provides guidance on saving the marriage, while at night, he serves as a mentor for the writer’s novel about killing.
In the movie, Lower portrays a professional organizer, and she explained how this profession shaped her character: “It certainly influenced her public image. Her appearance is always neat and orderly, and she takes great care in how she presents herself. I particularly enjoy the scene where she’s arranging someone’s home, and even a small item being out of place can upset her. She has a deep inner world.
Contrary to its ominous title and gloomy narrative hints, the movie “Psycho Therapy” offers plenty of opportunities for laughter. This is highlighted by actress Lower, who shares the moment that inspired her to join the production.
The actor confessed that the onion scene was particularly captivating for them. In this part of the story, a character named Susie is chopping countless onions in the kitchen, her face streaked with tears, yet she continues because she enjoys the sound it makes. This small detail provided a deep understanding of the character’s personality, and the ensuing counseling scenes were not only amusing on paper but also fun to film alongside John [Magaro] and Steve [Buscemi]. Reading the entire script left me in fits of laughter, which is unusual when reading scripts.
Expressing gratitude for the valuable insights gleaned from co-stars over the course of her career, Lower voiced her appreciation for them.
The actor was thrilled to collaborate with John and Steve on this project, learning from both of them. He believes anyone can teach in such a way. Interestingly, John Turturro was particularly instrumental during Season 1 and 2 of ‘Severance.’ Remarkably, John and Steve are currently working on a separate film, which brings me immense joy. Additionally, I had the pleasure of working with Jamie Lee Curtis, who’s also involved in that production. It’s truly heartening to see my idols creating art together.
Psycho Therapy: A Writer’s Dive into the Mind of a Serial Killer” will be released in cinemas across the country and available on demand starting April 11th.
