As someone who has grown up with the Brockman family from Outnumbered, I can confidently say that their reunion feels like catching up with old friends. The show was such a significant part of my childhood, and seeing the cast reunited after all these years brings a sense of nostalgia that’s hard to put into words.

It’s tricky getting family together for Christmas. Which might be why, when RT reunites the cast of Outnumbered for our “then and now” photoshoot, they’re yet to film their upcoming festive special. In fact, our shoot is the first time they have all been together in years – although that doesn’t stop the “kids” casually referring to their on-screen parents Claire Skinner and Hugh Dennis as “Mum” and “Dad” in conversation.
It seems fitting that the Brockmans tend to procrastinate until the last moment. Over five seasons of the BBC sitcom (including specials) from 2007 to 2016, viewers grew fond of this ordinary yet unpredictable family, and the three young actors who were given freedom from scripts, allowing them to deliver more genuine performances.
In 2008, during the capture of the initial family photo, Ramona Marquez was six years old, Daniel Roche was eight, and Tyger Drew-Honey was thirteen. However, reading the interview alongside it today, Drew-Honey appears puzzled. “It states that I aspire to be an actor,” he says with a frown, while his fellow actors and parents chuckle. “But I can’t recall a moment when I wanted to do any of those things!
In their twenties, Karen, Ben, and Jake – the three “kids” – have matured and ventured out on their own. Pete and Sue, now 58, have minimized their living space and are enjoying a serene life. However, they secretly yearn for their children, as Skinner, also 58, points out. An additional joy for them is that they have become grandparents!
Dennis, at 62 years old, shares that as a parent of two children like himself, he’s eager to reunite with his family during the upcoming holiday season. He notes that the roles reverse as the kids grow up, “You spend your whole life guiding your children, and then, after a certain point, you realize it’s your children who are now steering the ship!” It turned out to be less complicated than expected to bring the Brockman family back together for this particular episode. Interestingly enough, although they no longer portray a couple on TV, Dennis and Skinner have found themselves in a romantic relationship off-screen. When asked about his personal life, Dennis humorously remarks, “Claire and I cross paths quite frequently,” while Marquez adds playfully, “Every so often.
28-year-old actor Drew-Honey, portraying the sarcastic oldest sibling Jake, responded with an immediate “yes” and even shed tears upon receiving the email. He was simply overjoyed.
Marquez and Roche, now 22 and 25 years old respectively, were equally eager. Unlike their older counterpart, who has continued his acting career, this duo had mostly moved away from the entertainment industry. However, they are now keen to re-enter the spotlight. As Roche confesses, “I was quite the teenage sensation, but there weren’t many opportunities coming my way.” Instead, he channeled his energy into rugby, representing King’s College London during his time as a student there.
Marquez continues by saying, “It’s enjoyable to dive back in, but it’s also refreshing to use the spare time for new discoveries. It feels liberating to make this a choice now, instead of it being an ongoing routine that started when I was just five years old!
The children exhibit a mix of groans and laughter, engaging in conversation amongst themselves, effectively putting the interview on hold. If you squint, it appears as if they’re posing for a family snapshot.
