Quantic Dream Responds to Recent Layoffs at Parent Company NetEase

Quantic Dream, known for creating Heavy Rain and Detroit: Become Human (and other games), has addressed the recent job cuts at NetEase, as the publisher appears to be scaling back its involvement in Western video game projects. Since they are a fully-owned subsidiary of NetEase and have been working on Star Wars Eclipse for some time, there was some apprehension that Quantic Dream might face layoffs too; however, the CEO of both companies has clarified that this is not happening.

According to a post on LinkedIn by Quantic Dream’s CEO, Guillaume de Fondaumierre, everything appears to be running smoothly at the company. In fact, the game Detroit has sold more than two million copies in 2024, bringing its total sales to an impressive 11 million since its release in 2018. De Fondaumierre stated this in his post.

David Cage, alongside me, wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to the supporters and companions who have recently contacted us about Quantic Dream. Rest assured, our studios based in Paris and Montreal are thriving and unchanged. We’re full steam ahead on our projects, with numerous job openings still available in both cities.

According to a statement given to IGN, a spokesperson from NetEase confirmed that their international business expansion remains unwavering. Their strategy, which involves both independent research and investment in global markets, is continuing to thrive. This approach has led to successful launches of games like Once Human and Marvel Rivals in 2024, showcasing NetEase’s capability, along with their skilled development teams, to create globally popular, high-quality games.
