Quincy Jones – legendary musician and record producer – dies, aged 91

As a lifelong cinema enthusiast and music aficionado, I find myself deeply saddened by the news of Quincy Jones‘ passing at 91. His prolific career spanning over seven decades is nothing short of extraordinary, a testament to his immense talent and relentless dedication.


Legendary music figure Quincy Jones, recognized for collaborating with Michael Jackson and Frank Sinatra, passed away at 91 years old.

The news was shared by Arnold Robinson, Jones’s publicist, who issued a statement on behalf of the Jones family.

Tonight, we sorrowfully announce the passing of our beloved father and brother, Quincy Jones. Though we feel a profound sense of loss within our family, we honor his remarkable life and acknowledge that no one can ever replace him.

1933 saw the birth of Jones, who later enrolled at what is presently known as the Berklee College of Music in Boston. However, he eventually left to accept an opportunity to embark on a tour as a trumpeter.

This started his professional music career, which spanned more than 75 years.

One of his significant accomplishments includes creating the albums “Off the Wall,” “Thriller,” and “Bad” for Michael Jackson, as well as collaborating on Frank Sinatra’s timeless tune “Fly Me to the Moon.

In 1985, he was renowned for orchestrating a gathering of 46 highly acclaimed American musicians, such as Bruce Springsteen, Tina Turner, and Cyndi Lauper, to record the charity single “We Are the World.

Apart from his recognition, Jones was equally renowned for his contributions in cinema and television. He created films like “The Color Purple” and TV series including “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air”, and also crafted the music scores for movies such as the 1969 release “The Italian Job”.

Throughout his musical journey, he accumulated a total of 28 Grammy Awards, and at one point, Time Magazine recognized him among the century’s most impactful jazz artists of the 20th century.

Jones got married on three separate occasions. Initially, he wed Jeri Caldwell, followed by Ulla Andersson, and lastly Peggy Lipton. His marriage with Peggy Lipton ended in 1990 through a divorce.

He had seven children, including music producer Quincy Jones III and actress Rashida Jones.
