R. Kelly’s Daughter Joann Kelly to Share a “Heartbreaking Secret”

As an ardent fan who has followed R. Kelly’s career since his early days, it’s heart-wrenching to see the life of his daughter, Joann Kelly, unfold in such a tragic manner. Growing up with a musical icon as my father should have been a dream come true, but for her, it was a nightmare she carried silently for years.

R. Kelly‘s estranged daughter has been carrying a heartbreaking childhood secret.

In a recently released documentary, Joann Kelly, better known as Buku Abi, recounts her upbringing alongside an R&B artist who is currently incarcerated for over three decades due to sexual misconduct charges involving underage girls.

Joann expresses in the TVEI Network’s series, “R. Kelly’s Karma: A Daughter’s Journey,” that he was her world for quite some time. She shares this in the trailer released on September 29th. However, she struggled to accept the truth of what happened.

The 26-year-old went on to say, “I hadn’t realized that such a terrible individual could impact me so significantly. That single moment seems to have entirely altered the course of my life.

As reported by TVEI, in the documentary, Kelly’s daughter courageously discloses a devastating truth that significantly impacted her childhood.

In the documentary, Joann openly declared that she would share her personal experiences related to her son and ensure he maintains a distance from the artist known as “I Believe I Can Fly.

She stated that if her son asks questions, she will answer honestly. However, she has no intention of bringing her son to a prison to visit his grandpa.

Kelly becomes eligible for release from prison in 2045 when he turns 78. In April, a federal appeals court affirmed his convictions related to child pornography and enticement, over eighteen months following the end of his trial in Chicago, as per WTTW’s report.

In the documentary, Drea Kelly, who is Joann’s mother and used to be Kelly’s wife, is also featured. In the preview, she stated, “Just because you’re not a good spouse doesn’t make you a bad father. The fact that he didn’t even try,” she said at 50 years old. “What he did to me, he did to me. But there was no need to do it to my children.

Last year, I publicly addressed some troubling matters concerning my father following the premiere of the documentary series titled “Surviving R. Kelly.” This groundbreaking production shed light on accusations of misconduct and inappropriate relationships with minors that had been levied against the famous musician by others.

The project took place before Kelly was convicted in 2022 of racketeering and sex trafficking, as well as other charges such as felony sexual exploitation of a child, enticement of a woman, and possessing material with child pornography, which occurred a year later.

In my Instagram post, I shared that the man everyone’s talking about is indeed my father. I understand who he is and what he represents all too well, having grown up under his roof. My decision not to discuss him or his actions stems from my need for inner tranquility, emotional balance, and most importantly, my healing journey. I must prioritize myself and act in ways that serve me best.
