R.L. Stine Confirms Even More Fear Street Movies Are on the Way (Even After Prom Queen)

As a seasoned horror enthusiast and avid reader of R.L Stine’s works since my teenage years, I can barely contain my excitement about the expansion of the Fear Street franchise! Growing up in the ’80s and ’90s, I devoured every single Fear Street book that came out, and the thought of seeing these chilling tales come to life on screen is a dream come true.

The original trilogy was a thrilling ride, but hearing about more films set in the haunting town of Shadyside has my heart racing with anticipation! Leigh Janiak’s vision for a horror Marvel universe within Fear Street is nothing short of genius. I can only imagine the horrors that await us in a ’50s slasher movie – it’s enough to send shivers down my spine just thinking about it!

What makes Fear Street stand out from other YA horror series is its darker, edgier tone and the high body count. I can already hear the collective sigh of relief from fellow fans who were left unsatisfied by the lack of deaths in Goosebumps. I’m looking forward to seeing more of the gruesome twists and turns that Fear Street has become known for.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t wait to see what Stine takes on next. Maybe we’ll finally get a Fear Street TV series or standalone films? Who knows what other terrifying delights are in store for us! I’m counting down the days until the next installment of this blood-soaked franchise, and if you ask me, I think it’s safe to say that the prom season at Shadyside High is going to be one hell of a ride!

And as a little joke, I can only hope that one day they’ll make a Fear Street crossover with Goosebumps – just imagine Slappy the Dummy teaming up with the devil from Shadyside… talk about a horror mash-up for the ages!

Enthusiasts of R.L Stine’s Fear Street series have plenty to anticipate, with the Netflix adaptation of “Prom Queen” just one of many reasons. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, not only is a new trilogy of films in development for Netflix, but there will also be three more Fear Street movies added to the franchise this year. To top it off, a fourth film is expected to premiere this year, leading into a fresh trilogy set within the eerie and frequently lethal town of Shadyside.

As a movie enthusiast penning down my thoughts, I recently had the chance to attend the premiere of Goosebumps: The Vanishing. During the event, the legendary author R.L. Stine shared some exciting news about the future of Fear Street adaptations that left me eagerly anticipating more. When asked about the progress, he confidently stated, “The writers are hard at work,” and added, “So I’ve got my fingers crossed.” It seems these creative minds have been keeping quite busy, as evidenced by their latest expansion of Stine’s chilling franchise.

The Fear Street series, a unique Young Adult horror collection, delves into a darker, more mature realm compared to Stine’s famous Goosebumps series. With sales surpassing 80 million copies across 51 books, it’s clear that this series has captivated many readers. The Netflix adaptations of the original trilogy, led by director Leigh Janiak, were especially intriguing to her due to the vast array of opportunities for supernatural suspense within the storyline.

Janiak shared with IndieWire one intriguing aspect of Fear Street: its vast universe offers ample opportunities for storytelling. He mentioned before his hiring that this could pave the way for a horror comic book-style shared universe, featuring slasher villains from various time periods. The central lore, which revolves around the idea that the devil resides in Shadyside, also leaves space for other elements to be explored.

Janiak expressed her optimism that audiences will enjoy the project enough to expand upon it. This could lead to brainstorming ideas for additional trilogies, standalone movies, or even TV series. She no longer categorizes these possibilities strictly as TV or films due to Netflix’s versatility and the unique nature of ‘Fear Street’. Essentially, she is thrilled about the potential for further developments in this hybrid format. Additionally, she shared her intrigue about creating a 50s-themed slasher movie, an idea she hasn’t explored before, and finds it exciting to consider the different time periods and possibilities as a horror enthusiast.

Stine also pointed out another significant distinction between Goosebumps and Fear Street, which lies in their mortality rates. “In Goosebumps, no one ever meets their end. That’s what sets Goosebumps apart from Fear Street, where we ruthlessly eliminate teenagers left and right. We relish in it,” Stine explained to THR. “However, there was a death in the first two episodes of the latest Goosebumps series, but these deaths occurred 30 years ago. That’s a notable difference. So, while it remains Goosebumps, it has been upgraded.” Here is the official description for The Prom Queen.

Greetings once more to Shadyside! In the forthcoming chapter of our gory Fear Street series, it’s time for the much-anticipated prom at Shadyside High. The school’s clique of It Girls are up to their sweet and malicious schemes to secure the throne. However, an audacious outsider gets an unforeseen nomination to the court, and as the other girls begin inexplicably vanishing, the class of ’88 is bracing for a night of prom they’ll never forget – one that could be downright terrifying!
