Radio 1’s Big Weekend 2025: Sam Fender to Headline in Historic Liverpool Event!

2025’s Radio 1 Big Weekend has officially announced its plans, unveiling that the musical extravaganza will make its inaugural visit to Liverpool next May.

The objective of the BBC event is to bring well-known artists to regions across the country that typically don’t host big events, such as Luton, Middlesbrough, Exeter, Hull, and Norwich, in the past.

This morning, it was revealed by BBC Radio 1 host Greg James that the annual Big Weekend event will take place in Liverpool, the city where The Beatles originated, from Friday 23rd May through Sunday 25th May in the year 2025.

The DJ assured everyone that some of the most renowned artists globally will be making their way to an exceptionally vibrant urban center, hinting that the selection of around 100 performances is sure to captivate audiences.

For the 2025 Big Weekend, the first five confirmed artists include indie groups like Blossoms and Wet Leg, as well as solo artists such as Lola Young, Myles Smith, and Sam Fender, with Sam Fender being the headlining act among them.

In a statement, Fender expressed their excitement about attending Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Liverpool during May. They extended their gratitude for the invitation and looked forward to seeing everyone there!

Blossoms expressed their excitement: “We’re thrilled that Radio 1 asked us to perform at this year’s Big Weekend! It makes us even happier because it’s happening in Liverpool, a city dear to our hearts, where we’ve been working and recording all our albums since our debut in 2016.

“It’s going to be a really special weekend and we can’t wait to perform.”

Smith exclaimed: “This is hard to believe! Big Weekend has always been a dream of mine, and being on the lineup once more is beyond words. A big thank you to everyone who listens, supports, and attends shows – I couldn’t have made it here without your help. Can’t wait to see you all there!

Approximately 100,000 music enthusiasts are anticipated to attend Radio 1’s Big Weekend in May. The aim is for this event to shine a spotlight on and provide a significant financial advantage to the city hosting it, which happens to be Liverpool in this instance.

Details about tickets for the upcoming event are still under wraps as it tends to fill up quickly, but don’t worry if you can’t make it in person; you can still enjoy comprehensive coverage of the event on BBC Radio 1.
