It seems that Rainbow Six Siege X is gearing up for an impressive first year. Rainbow Six Siege, which has held its ground in the FPS genre for nearly a decade, was initially launched in December 2015. It quickly garnered attention for its unique take on console shooters compared to games like Call of Duty and Battlefield. Influenced by titles such as Counter-Strike, it also embraced the rising trend of hero shooters. However, what truly propelled it to success was its strategic gameplay. Players can strategically fortify objectives, break down walls and doors, and utilize drones/cameras for tactical planning. This game has been a resounding hit and maintained its popularity even as it transitioned into the next console generation.
In its tenth year, Ubisoft is upgrading Rainbow Six Siege with a fresh version called Rainbow Six Siege X, which runs on a new engine. This means that the game will be designed for long-term playability and, ideally, provide a more responsive gaming experience that can be easily updated. Unlike a sequel or spin-off, this is essentially an enhanced replacement of the original Rainbow Six Siege, offering players the chance to explore the next phase of the game.
In June, Rainbow Six Siege X is set to debut as a free-to-play game, promising to be one of the most significant summer releases. It seems that Ubisoft is gearing up for an impressive first year with battle passes, collaborations, and updates filled with fresh content like maps and additional features. A recent leak hints at what’s in store for Rainbow Six Siege X, suggesting a collaboration with another massive video game franchise. The leak showcases skins inspired by the Borderlands series, enabling players to assume the appearance of characters such as Psycho and Lilith.

In typical fashion for Rainbow Six, this isn’t unusual to see collaborations like bringing characters such as Master Chief and Kiryu from Yakuza into the game. This symbiotic relationship benefits both franchises by cross-promoting each other. With Borderlands 4 set to launch this fall, it’s likely that the Siege X crossover will coincide with that release. However, Ubisoft and Gearbox have yet to make an official announcement about Siege X. We can expect more details when Siege X launches in June or shortly thereafter.
Rainbow Six Siege X releases on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC on June 10th.
