As a seasoned veteran of Rainbow Six Siege, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement bordering on disbelief as we approach Operation Collision Point. After years of playing this incredible game, the prospect of full cross-play has always been a dream, one that seemed just out of reach for far too long.
Ubisoft’s popular first-person shooter game, Rainbow Six Siege, remains a key title for the company after nearly a decade. To keep it fresh, Ubisoft regularly updates the game. On December 3, they will roll out the Year 9 Season 4 update, called Operation Collision Point. This update will include the usual seasonal enhancements, but also a significant, long-awaited feature: full cross-play compatibility.
Initially, Rainbow Six Siege supported cross-platform gameplay between PC, Amazon Luna, and Stadia in 2021. Cross-play for PlayStation and Xbox was added the following year. In its upcoming update, this multiplayer shooter will introduce the ability for players on PlayStation and Xbox to engage with and compete against players using PCs for the first time.
When it comes to understanding the intricacies of cross-play, here’s what Ubisoft has shared: If I’m part of a squad with PC gamers, we’ll always be matched against other PC players. However, if I’m playing Ranked on my console, my progress rank for PC and console will remain distinct and separate.
Rainbow Six Siege is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
