As a longtime fan of the Assassin’s Creed series, I can’t help but feel disheartened by this unfortunate turn of events. Having played through the epic saga of Bayek and Aya in Assassin’s Creed Origins, it holds a special place in my gaming heart. The news that the game is now unplayable on PC due to a Windows update is nothing short of gut-wrenching.
I remember the days when I would eagerly anticipate each new installment, savoring every moment of immersion into these rich, historical worlds. The frustration of knowing that such a masterpiece, which I believe to be one of the franchise’s finest entries, is now inaccessible to many PC gamers, is palpable.
Ubisoft’s decision to put the game on sale while it remains unplayable for some seems rather tone-deaf and insensitive. It’s a bit like offering a delicious meal that you know is poisoned – sure, it’s cheap, but who wants to eat it?
In a lighter vein, I can’t help but wonder if Microsoft has an update in the pipeline for Windows 11 that will bring back the lost games. Perhaps they’ll call it “Update 25: Raise of the Dead Games.” Or maybe it’s just time to invest in a PlayStation and join the ranks of those who can still enjoy these treasures uninterrupted.
2025 saw an unfortunate beginning for Ubisoft as their latest release on PC, one of the top entries in their franchise on PS5, became virtually unplayable due to a Microsoft Windows update. This has sparked a wave of negative reviews on Steam and widespread dissatisfaction on social media platforms, where fans have expressed their disappointment.
According to IGN’s report, troubles related to Windows 11 update version 24H2, released by Microsoft in late November, have caused issues with several Ubisoft games, such as Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Star Wars Outlaws, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and Assassin’s Creed Origins. While patches have been released for Outlaws and Avatar to fix the problem, discontent among fans of Assassin’s Creed has reached a boiling point, with Assassin’s Creed Origins, known for its lead character Bayek of Siwa (portrayed by Tales of Kenzera: ZAU director Abubakar Salim), becoming the main focus.
Afterwards, Origins has received a mixed review average from users, largely due to issues with Windows updates. This, along with several other factors, makes us more comfortable playing on PlayStation. However, this situation highlights the risks developers face when launching games on multiple platforms, even years later. Notably, Ubisoft chose to discount the game at this time without a fix, which has further upset some players.
