As a longtime fan of Rumiko Takahashi’s masterpiece Ranma 1/2, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming anime remake! With the recent announcement of the release date and familiar voice cast, I’m feeling nostalgic and eager all at once.

And now, we’re in for a treat as each of these beloved series gets a fresh new take.

Shogakukan has made an official announcement that “Ranma 1/2” is set to receive a fresh anime adaptation, which is scheduled to debut in Japan on October 5th during the Fall 2024 anime season. At present, details regarding its international release have not been disclosed. However, some cast members who will be reprising their roles include Kappei Yamaguchi as Ranma Saotome, Megumi Hayashibara as the female version of Ranma, and Noriko Hidaka as Akane Tendo.

What to Know for Ranma 1/2 Remake Anime

Starting October 5th in Japan, the freshly announced “Ranma 1/2” anime from MAPPA will be available. Konosuke Uda takes the helm as director, while Kimiko Ueno pens the scripts, Hiromi Taniguchi brings the characters to life visually, and Kaoru Wada crafts the music score. Notable voices returning from the original series include Kappei Yamaguchi as Ranma Saotome, Megumi Hayashibara for Female Ranma, Noriko Hidaka as Akane Tendo, Minami Takayama as Nabiki Tendo, Kikuko Inoue as Kasumi Tendo, Koichi Yamadera as Ryoga Hibiki, and Rei Sakuma as Shampoo.

In the latest update, Akio Otsuka takes over the role of Soun Tendo from Ryunosuke Ohbayashi, Cho assumes the position of Genma Saotome previously held by Kenichi Ogata, and Kenichi Ogata steps in as the new narrator, following the passing of Tadashi Nakamura. Ranma 1/2, created by Rumiko Takahashi for Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday in 1997, has continued to captivate audiences with various anime adaptations, films, live-action versions, and more throughout the years since its debut.
