As a dedicated Ratchet & Clank fan with years of galactic adventures under my belt, I must say that this latest update for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is music to my Lombax ears! After all the time I’ve spent traversing dimensions and battling nefarious villains, it’s heartening to see Insomniac Games still tending to their cosmic masterpiece.
In a span of two years, Sony’s PlayStation and developer Insomniac Games have rolled out the first fresh update for the game Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. To be clear, Insomniac has pretty much wrapped up their work on this title for quite a while now. The exception being the 2023 release of the PC version, the PS5 version of the latest Ratchet & Clank game hasn’t seen any updates since then. However, if you’ve been yearning to revisit the game, your wait is over with this new update, courtesy of a recent patch.
Currently, you can download Update 1.005.000 for “Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart” on your PS5. This update prepares the ground for the upcoming launch of the PS5 Pro, scheduled for November 7th. To get ready for this upgrade, Insomniac has incorporated a few new graphical settings that will optimize gameplay on the enhanced PlayStation 5 console.
Beyond the modifications specifically for PS5 Pro, very little about Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart has been altered. Insomniac Games have addressed an extra issue in the game regarding Ratchet’s fur appearing wet during certain cutscenes. Apart from this fix, the playable content of Rift Apart remains unchanged compared to its previous version.

THE NEW GRAPHICS MODES
PERFORMANCE PRO (Default for PlayStation 5 Pro)
In this setting, the focus is on delivering a fluid 60 frames per second gameplay while preserving the visual clarity of the default Fidelity mode with the aid of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) technology. All ray-tracing capabilities are activated, such as ray-traced reflections, ray-tracing on water bodies, and ray-traced interior windows of glass structures. This mode is advisable for the majority of gamers.
FIDELITY PRO
This setting caters to players seeking to explore fresh ray-tracing visual effects, running at approximately 30 frames per second. For better intermediate frame rates and smoother gameplay, you can customize these newly added features individually. This optimization is particularly useful when activating the “VRR” or “120 Hz Display Mode”. Additionally, certain regions may see an increase in pedestrian and traffic density, while finer details on hair are enhanced.
NEW GRAPHICAL TOGGLES
Adjust the quality of ray-traced reflections:
Modify ray-tracing settings for Ambient Occlusion: Disable (for Performance), Medium, or High (Default Fidelity). Here’s what each setting does:
