As a gamer who has spent countless hours navigating through various digital worlds and immersing myself in diverse narratives, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation for the upcoming change in WWE Monday Night Raw’s broadcasting platform to Netflix.

Starting from 2025, the popular show WWE Monday Night Raw will stream on Netflix instead of cable television, following a five-year deal signed earlier this year with the world’s largest streaming service. This transition marks the end of its run on traditional broadcast networks at the close of 2024. The shift has sparked much excitement as both WWE and Netflix executives have highlighted the potential for growth in this partnership. One potential benefit is the ability to rate WWE Monday Night Raw TV-MA, without advertisers, allowing for more creative freedom in content.

Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should seems to be the recurring sentiment across WWE.

At the Power Players event, Paul Heyman told Bloomberg that he appreciates the TV-PG guidelines in WWE programming because they allow for a broader range of viewers to tune in.

Heyman expressed that he finds it particularly engaging to tackle the challenges of being PG, without implying any disrespect towards our earlier counterparts or the standards they adhered to. To him, it’s more stimulating to weave tales in this manner. Furthermore, it expands the range of people who can relate to the stories, which is our ultimate aim. We strive to connect with as many individuals as feasible, and I believe there’s a delicate balance when it comes to extending that reach, so as not to alienate the audience from the product.

Heyman added, ‘I believe we’ll discover an intriguing scope where we can innovate, perhaps even exceed boundaries. However, it’s crucial for us to remain faithful to our principles, ethics, and the atmosphere we’ve cultivated so far.’

In a similar vein to what CM Punk and Dominik Mysterio have advocated, Heyman suggests that WWE should only introduce mature themes in storylines when they are absolutely essential.

In simpler terms, Punk expressed earlier this summer that he believes people are relying too much on Netflix to use profanity excessively, which he feels loses its impact. He made the comparison that if everyone swore, or used gestures like giving the middle finger, or included frequent instances of violence and gore in their shows, it would lose its significance.

WWE Monday Night Raw premieres on Netflix in January 2025.
