As a dedicated fan of “The Real Bros of Simi Valley,” I was thrilled to hear that the web series had finally made the leap to the big screen with “The Real Bros of Simi Valley: The Movie.” Having followed Xander and his crew through three seasons, I was eager to see how they would adapt their beloved show for a feature film format.
After spending three seasons as a web series, “The Real Bros of Simi Valley” transitioned into the realm of feature films with the release of “The Real Bros of Simi Valley: The Movie.” This latest installment premiered on the Roku Channel recently, focusing on Xander and his friends as they gear up for their 10-year high school reunion. Viewers of the show will find familiar humor and excitement in this new film, but the production team had to adapt certain elements to suit the requirements of a full-length movie format.
I was thrilled to have the opportunity to chat with Jimmy Tatro, the brilliant mind behind and star of “Real Bros” web series, as well as his co-creator and co-star Christian A. Pierce. They shared the fascinating journey of transforming their cherished project into a feature film for Roku.
Originally, we planned to develop it as a television series. But when it was decided to be a film instead, we pondered over how to transform this from a show into a movie. We were determined to include the 10-year reunion in the story. The characters needed to attend, and this seemed like the most cinematic way to do so within our show’s narrative. By inviting them to the reunion and allowing them to embark on their own self-destructive journeys prior to attending, we believed it would provide an excellent motivation for the characters to act out and create the chaotic scenes needed to make this movie compelling.
Pierce added that the makers of “Real Bros of Simi Valley” had mapped out several more seasons past the third one. The idea for a 10-year reunion was included in their original scheme, yet they originally intended to incorporate it into the television program itself.
Pierce shared, “Up until Season 3, we had planned out the potential direction of the next few seasons with the reunion either at the end or as the second part. We were trying to decide, but we knew we would continue in that vein. However, once it wasn’t renewed for another series, but instead became a movie opportunity, we realized that the reunion had become the present scenario.”
The Real Bros of Simi Valley: The Movie is now streaming exclusively on the Roku Channel.
