Real Fans Will Find a Way to Buy $80 Games, Says Borderlands Boss

The move by Nintendo to increase the cost of Mario Kart World to $80 has sparked concern among gaming enthusiasts, particularly since Microsoft wasn’t lagging much behind in price adjustments.

So far, Sony hasn’t disclosed any plans to raise the prices of upcoming first-person games like Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and Ghost of Yotei, but that doesn’t seem to deter fans from pre-ordering the pricey Digital Deluxe Editions. It feels like it might just be a matter of time before we see some changes in pricing.

Expressing enthusiasm towards Gearbox Software’s Randy Pitchford, a fan took to social media (such as Twitter) to kindly request that the price of the upcoming Borderlands 4 not be set at $80. This comes amidst discussions within publisher 2K Games and their parent company Take-Two regarding potential price hikes.

He replied, “That’s not for me to decide.” Interestingly, he followed up with, “If you’re a true supporter, you’ll figure out a way to take care of it yourself.

Later on, Pitchford shared a tale about how he got his hands on Starflight for the SEGA Genesis by selling ice cream at Pismo Beach. This won’t be the only time people draw comparisons to the expensive cartridges from the 90s.

Clearly, Pitchford’s remarks have sparked criticism from many consumers, as evidenced by a flood of responses from his followers expressing their opinions.

During a recent PAX East panel, the former magician made some more balanced remarks about the subject, emphasizing that he wasn’t privy to the cost of the upcoming sequel.

On one hand, we have a marketplace where suppliers aim to sell the maximum number of units while remaining mindful of cost-conscious consumers. Some consumers, even those setting the prices, don’t want prices to rise, which creates a balance in the market.

It’s become common knowledge that game production costs are rising and there are additional charges for retail packaging. Things are getting tough, it seems. The budget for Borderlands 4 is over double that of Borderlands 3. To be honest, I’m unsure about the final price.

See, that wasn’t so hard, was it Randy?
