As a long-time devotee of gripping, edge-of-your-seat TV dramas, I couldn’t hide my excitement when I heard that Red Eye is returning for a second season! The first installment left me on the edge of my seat with its intricate plot and captivating characters. Jing Lusi as DS Hana Li was a breath of fresh air, her portrayal of a determined and resourceful character truly resonated with me.
Red Eye will return for a second season, ITV has confirmed.
In the announcement made by the broadcaster, it was revealed that Jing Lusi would once again take on the character of DS Hana Li. Additionally, Lesley Sharp and Jemma Moore are set to resume their roles as Madeline Delaney, Head of MI5, and journalist Jess Li respectively.
At this point, it remains uncertain whether Richard Armitage will return for the new season, as he has not been among the cast members officially announced by ITV following the show’s renewal.
In the initial phase of the spy-filled suspense novel, esteemed physician Matthew Nolan (played by Armitage), found himself falsely charged with the homicide of a high-ranking Chinese politician’s daughter.
During a long-haul flight, DC Hana Li (Lusi), who was assigned to accompany him, begins to suspect that his case might be more complex than originally thought.
ITV’s Drama Chief, Polly Hill, expressed her joy over the success of Red Eye: “It’s fantastic to have an audience of more than 8 million viewers! Kudos to the entire team who created this gripping and binge-worthy thriller – a big thank you to all involved!
“I can’t wait for audiences to see where Pete takes series 2. It’s another exciting ride!”
The initial series concluded with Hana and Matthew exposing a dangerous scheme that surrounded them, yet it raised doubts about their relationship dynamic and what future adventures might follow for them.
Lusi shared with us her thoughts on coming back, saying, “Hana holds a special place in my heart. The world that Pete and Julie Gardner produced, and Kieron Hawkes brought to life, along with the incredibly skilled team, is captivating.
Given the chance, I’m all in for narrating a tale that captures my heart… for me, characters are the essence. If there isn’t a compelling narrative with an exciting journey for both characters and audience, let’s not embark on it. Let’s continue to make everything we do remarkable and true to its original form.
She mentioned: “I’m quite receptive to the idea. I believe there’s certainly more tale to unfold, yet it needs to be the appropriate narrative.
It seems likely that Lusi’s comeback indicates the writers have devised an engaging opening for Red Eye season 2. Keep tuned for further updates on the upcoming episodes!
Red Eye is available to stream on ITVX, with no confirmed release date for season 2.
