What you need to know

  • Bethesda Softworks has announced a new addition to its mobile gaming lineup from Bethesda Game Studios.
  • More specifically, the developers behind the legendary mobile game Fallout Shelter are releasing its spiritual successor, this time set in The Elder Scrolls universe.
  • The Elder Scrolls: Castles will have you build and manage your own kingdom, including designing a castle, ruling your subjects, and embarking on quests.
  • This casual, free-to-play mobile game is just around the corner, too, launching on Sept. 10 for Android and iOS (with pre-registrations opening today).

As a seasoned gamer and a dedicated fan of both Fallout Shelter and The Elder Scrolls series, I can confidently say that Bethesda has once again hit the sweet spot with The Elder Scrolls: Castles. Having spent countless hours managing my Vault in Fallout Shelter, I’m thrilled to dive into a new game that offers a similar experience but set within the rich world of Skyrim.

I was among the numerous individuals who played Fallout Shelter, but it’s been a couple of years since I last downloaded the game. Recently, the release of the Fallout TV series sparked a revival for the long-standing mobile game. However, even before this, developers were already working on a new game that would captivate our attention and resources – primarily our time and money. The game in question is the latest project from the creators of Fallout Shelter, but instead of being based in the Fallout universe, it’s now set within The Elder Scrolls universe.

In the video presentation you’ve just watched (which also serves as an in-depth exploration), it quickly becomes apparent that there are many shared aspects between Fallout Shelter and The Elder Scrolls: Castles. Over time, it has grown and enhanced with new features and gameplay elements, but at its heart, the fundamental concept remains unchanged: create your own community and look after your people. With TES: Castles, you will be able to expand your kingdom, constructing your castle according to your preference while managing your subjects and embarking on thrilling expeditions in search of valuable treasures.

Absolutely, this is another upcoming free mobile game called “The Elder Scrolls: Castles”, surprising us with an earlier release date than anticipated. The game will be available on Android and iOS devices starting September 10, 2024. You can pre-register for the game now at the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

Another reason to spend hours on your phone

In contrast to Fallout Shelter which is set in a post-apocalyptic world contaminated by radiation, The Elder Scrolls: Castles will be based in the same universe as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. You’ll encounter many enemies, locations, and characters familiar from other Elder Scrolls series installments (as you’ll see demonstrated a bit later on).

As a seasoned survivalist with years of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that the recent changes to Bethesda Game Studios’ latest game have truly revolutionized the building and management aspect for me. Instead of constructing an underground nuclear shelter, I now find myself designing a grand castle keep, overseeing my very own kingdom. The newfound control they’ve given us is nothing short of astounding – from having more freedom in shaping our designs to having flexibility in layouts and the ability to customize individual rooms to suit my preferences. It’s as if all my dreams have come true, and I couldn’t be happier!

As an observer, I see that you will cultivate a vibrant community of individuals, each distinct in their personalities and attributes. You’ll delegate these characters to different roles within your realm to ensure its smooth operation. However, what sets this experience apart is that you now hold the power to influence critical decisions and judgments, ones that can sway the spirits of your subjects. This gameplay remains familiar yet has evolved, offering a fresh take on an engaging journey.

In this context as well, the concept applies. The combat appears to have a strategic edge, yet it essentially involves preparing your team with necessary gear and dispatching them on predefined journeys to discover desirable loot. It retains the engaging, habit-forming qualities of Fallout Shelter, but has been upgraded and dressed in the style of The Elder Scrolls series.

The game “The Elder Scrolls: Castles” is planned to be free for everyone to play. However, similar to “Fallout Shelter”, it may offer optional in-game purchases. These could include randomized packs of items or characters, as well as in-game currency. The extent to which these microtransactions will be prominent hasn’t been fully determined yet.

“The much-anticipated mobile game ‘The Elder Scrolls: Castles’ is set to debut on September 10, 2024. It will be accessible on Android and iOS devices from day one. At this point, t Castles’ now, allowing you instant access to the game once it launches. Keep an eye on The Elder Scrolls: Castles official account on X.com for updates.”

Bethesda has set some pre-registration targets too, offering exclusive rewards for launch day players if these goals are achieved. These rewards range from in-game money and decorations, but if The Elder Scrolls: Castles reaches 2 million pre-registrations on Android and iOS, every player will get the Legendary Character Ulfric Stormcloak. Yes, the same Ulfric Stormcloak you might recognize. I have a feeling that more well-known characters from The Elder Scrolls series could be up for grabs in TES: Castles.
