As a tech-savvy individual, I’m thrilled to share that Microsoft is pulling out all the stops for DOOM: The Dark Ages, and it looks like we’re in line for a unique, personalized controller experience!
In a new chapter for the iconic series, DOOM: The Dark Ages is set to release on May 15, 2025. This installment will be available on Xbox Game Pass and can also be found at retail stores for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. The Doom Slayer’s saga takes a historical twist as it delves into the dark ages of the Middle Ages.
Recently, I had the opportunity to get my hands on DOOM: The Dark Ages, and let me tell you, it was simply amazing! If they could just pair it with a sleek DOOM-themed Xbox controller and console skin for the Xbox Series X, that would be the icing on the cake. Guess what? It looks like that’s precisely what we’re going to receive.
Billbil_kun, a trusted gaming tipster, disclosed that DOOM: The Dark Ages will come with a special edition Xbox Elite Controller Series 2, along with an Xbox Series X console cover. Historically, Microsoft unveils custom controllers and skins for its significant game launches, and Starfield has previously received such special treatment with its limited edition accessories.
📣 EXCITING NEWS 📣: This week, we’re unveiling two extra items for the DOOM The Dark Ages Xbox Limited Edition Collection! These include the Xbox Elite Series 2 Wireless Controller and an Xbox Series X Console Wrap. Check it out here: https://t.co/UjU3xa1ktv (April 16, 2025)
Interestingly, it seems a DOOM-style controller might have been unintentionally revealed, as it was spotted on the shelf of Xbox leader Phil Spencer’s office, making a public appearance through his office.
Previously, XboxEra noted an intriguing detail in a recent NBC report from Xbox Headquarters: a controller resembling DOOM was subtly showcased in the background during certain interview segments featuring Phil Spencer.

The device you see isn’t the Xbox Elite Controller Series 2, as it lacks a dedicated share button and the d-pad appears non-detachable.
Is it possible that we’re receiving not just a high-end Xbox Elite Controller but also a standard Xbox controller? Or perhaps there was some confusion on @billbil_kun’s part, mistaking the standard controller for an Elite one? It’s worth noting that Microsoft has delivered both custom Elite and non-Elite controllers for significant releases like Gears 5. However, Starfield only came with a standard custom controller.
It appears that these recently announced add-ons might be unveiled quite quickly. There are whispers of a small event hosted by Microsoft this month, possibly to quietly release the remade version of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, which has been extensively leaked in recent years.
