It appears that the re-release of Resident Evil 2 by Capcom on iOS devices hasn’t been a blockbuster hit according to sales figures. Based on information from MobileGamer.biz, the game has generated less than $100,000 in revenue from in-app purchases since its launch in December.
As a gamer myself, I’ve been keeping an eye on the sales of this fantastic game I’ve been playing since it launched on iOS back on December 10th. The data shows that approximately 9,500 players, including yours truly, have purchased the title for our Apple devices. Initially, the game was priced at a steal for $10 with a discount during its launch month. However, in the time since then, the price has been bumped up to $40, raking in an additional $7,000 for Capcom.
On numerous occasions, Capcom has encountered subpar sales when launching their games on iOS devices. A report published in July 2024 suggested that the iOS version of Resident Evil 7 Biohazard was similarly unsuccessful, with only approximately 83,000 downloads and less than 2,000 units sold at the time.
According to MobileGamer.biz’s report, Ubisoft’s endeavor to launch AAA titles like Assassin’s Creed Mirage on iOS devices hasn’t proven particularly fruitful, as the game’s total lifetime earnings on this platform are approximately $496,000.
Although these numbers don’t prove anything definitively, they could stem from several variables. It’s important to note that not every iOS user is able to play these advanced games. These launches are a part of Apple’s broader strategy to introduce major gaming titles onto their premium iPhones and iPads, which usually represent only a fraction of the total market for these games.
Additionally, it’s important to consider that high-priced mobile games without numerous compulsory microtransactions may not thrive in the market, as the mobile gaming sector, encompassing both iOS and Android platforms, predominantly favors free-to-play titles over paid ones.
At this moment, neither Capcom nor Apple has offered any insights regarding the sales figures of these games. Nonetheless, they remain exceptional demonstrations of the capabilities of top-tier iOS devices.
