According to recent ESRB ratings and reports from gaming outlets like VGC, it appears that Capcom is working on a native PlayStation 5 version of Resident Evil 6. The presence of a new listing for an “Xbox Series” version of the game suggests that current-generation ports are in development, with a strong likelihood that a PS5 port will also be part of these plans.
Over the past few years, there’s been significant work done to make the primary Resident Evil series playable natively on PlayStation 5. Capcom has transported games like Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard onto the system, while Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 4 have been available for PS5 since its launch day.
Only Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 among those mentioned are not originally designed for this hardware; they can be accessed through backward compatibility, though.
When games like Resident Evil 2, 3, and 7 were upgraded for PlayStation 5, they got some basic improvements such as compatibility with the DualSense controller, smoother gameplay at 120 frames per second, quicker load times, and ray tracing support. It’s likely that Resident Evil 6 will receive similar enhancements in the future.
Generally considered the weakest major installment in the Resident Evil series, we awarded Resident Evil 6 a 3/10 when it was released on PS4 in early 2016. Our review stated, “You can’t make a diamond from dung, and Resident Evil 6 is evidence of that. Despite some visual improvements, the game’s uninspiring set of mediocre campaigns will leave you feeling drained.” It hasn’t improved since then.
