As a long-time fan of Capcom and the Resident Evil series, I’m deeply disappointed by the recent reports about the commercial performance of their iOS ports of major AAA titles, including Resident Evil 7. It’s disheartening to see that despite the company’s efforts to bring these games to newer devices, they haven’t been able to generate significant sales or revenue on the platform.
Capcom is among the companies making strides in bringing their top-tier console games to iOS devices recently. However, business seems to be struggling for the company. Previous indications pointed to disappointing sales for the iOS adaptations of “Resident Evil Village” and the remake of “Resident Evil 4.” Now, there’s news that “Resident Evil 7” isn’t selling well either.
According to a recent report from Mobilegamer.biz, approximately 83,000 downloads of Resident Evil 7 have occurred on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPad devices equipped with M1 chips or newer since its release earlier this month, as suggested by Appmagic’s data.
Based on revenue generated, the company has earned approximately $28,140 from the iOS version of “Resident Evil 7” thus far. This figure suggests that fewer than 2,000 full copies of the game have been sold on iOS, as users can download the game for free but need to make a purchase to access its complete content.
It’s uncertain if Capcom and other game companies will keep producing big-budget games for mobile devices, as the current evidence suggests there isn’t a large demand for these titles on iOS.
