Resident Evil 9 Was Going to be Open-World With Multiplayer Before 2021 Development Reboot – Rumour

The well-known leaker known as AestheticGamer or Dusk Golem has shed some light on the speculations about Resident Evil 9. Although there have been various whispers about the subject of Capcom’s sequel to Resident Evil Village, according to this leaker, most of the details that aren’t accurate largely stem from an earlier, discarded version of Resident Evil 9 that was under development.

On social media platform X, AestheticGamer shared a sequence of posts discussing the earlier iteration of Resident Evil 9. It appears that development on this game began as early as 2017, immediately following the release of Resident Evil 7. The creators at Capcom were reportedly planning to make this game quite different from what was eventually released in RE7, featuring an open world and multiplayer aspects, potentially as a reaction to Resident Evil 7 falling short of sales expectations when it first came out.

It’s important to mention that Resident Evil 7 proved to be a significant triumph for Capcom, with many fans identifying it as a pivotal moment in the company’s history, where the quality of their games significantly improved. The initial concept for Resident Evil 9 supposedly centered around Leon and Jill being stranded on a fictional island near the coast of Singapore.

Although the earlier version of Resident Evil 9 was abandoned, there’s a significant overhaul planned for its development in 2021, with Leon Kennedy set to remain the main character. Additionally, it appears that a sequel to the Resident Evil: Revelations series focusing on Rebecca, as announced by AestheticGamer, has been canceled as of 2022.

Based on information from AestheticGamer, it appears that Andi from ScreenFire Germany might be right about Capcom planning to reveal Resident Evil 9 during the upcoming Summer Game Fest, with a potential release date in Q1 of 2026. Additionally, rumors that remakes for Resident Evil: Code Veronica and Resident Evil 0 are in development are also supported by AestheticGamer’s findings.

Previously this month, the source of the leak claimed that Capcom is absolutely planning to unveil “Resident Evil 9” sometime in the remainder of this year. Yet, they were uncertain if this disclosure would take place early in the year at Summer Games Fest, or later on at events like The Game Awards in December.

Regarding the Resident Evil series, Capcom has been fairly tight-lipped about its upcoming plans, having recently remade Resident Evil 4. However, a video they released seems to suggest a mainline sequel may be on the horizon. Eagle-eyed fans of the franchise noticed a wooden post in the video, which when rotated counterclockwise, forms the Roman numeral for the number 9. This could potentially hint at Resident Evil 9 as the next installment.

Previous whispers suggest that Capcom may be aiming for a grand scale with the upcoming Resident Evil 9. As per these rumors, the game is said to represent a fresh take on the Resident Evil series, with mentions of it resembling both Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 7.
