Resident Evil Requiem Director Says Grace Ashcroft is the “New Main Character”

Ever since Capcom publicly introduced Resident Evil Requiem with a trailer, there’s been plenty of speculation surrounding it. However, director Koshi Nakanishi aims to quell fans’ doubts about the franchise by confirming that Grace Ashcroft, who was featured in the game’s unveiling trailer, will be the solitary protagonist in the upcoming horror installment.

According to GamesRadar, YouTube channel Neon Slice has disclosed that Nakanishi shared a video message with members of Capcom’s Resident Evil Ambassador group, identifying Grace as the main character in Resident Evil Requiem.

According to Neon Slice’s video (you can watch it here), while Nakanishi claims that Grace is the primary character in the game, this hasn’t stopped people from talking about Leon Kennedy potentially being another main character as well.

According to reports by well-known leaker AestheticGamer earlier this week, it’s rumored that Grace will be one of the main characters in “Resident Evil Requiem”. Moreover, it’s speculated that Leon Kennedy, the protagonist from “Resident Evil 2”, “4”, and “6”, might appear as a playable character in some capacity. AestheticGamer hinted that Leon’s role in the game may become more apparent when Capcom progresses further into the marketing phase for “Resident Evil Requiem”.

AestheticGamer posted on social media: ‘I want to make this clear before my trailer analysis: In RE9 Requiem, Leon is the lead character. Although he appears in the trailer, you’ll initially play less as him (but more later), with Grace being more prominent. As marketing progresses, his role becomes increasingly evident, culminating in a game where you control Leon more often.’

Based on recent leaks, which feature screenshots as evidence, it appears that Grace Ashcroft may not be the sole playable character in the game. These leaks suggest a second character may also be playable, hinting at their presence within the game. This second character is described as being familiar and armed with multiple weapons.

In the trailer for “Resident Evil Requiem,” we see Grace Ashcroft, who is the offspring of previous “Resident Evil” lead character, Alyssa Ashcroft. Alyssa was a playable character in cooperative spin-off games titled “Resident Evil: Outbreak” and its successor, “Outbreak File #2.” These games were set around the time Raccoon City was bombed, making Alyssa one of the fortunate survivors from that period.

Regarding Alyssa’s recent activities, her name has surfaced in various projects, such as “Resident Evil 7”, where an article bearing her byline can be found. Concerning the storyline of “Resident Evil Requiem”, it is presumed that she met her end while investigating the Wrenwood Hotel, a location players will likely traverse in the upcoming game.

The video game titled “Resident Evil Requiem” is being worked on and will be available for play on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. It’s set to launch on February 27, 2026. Judging by the trailer, it seems that players may revisit significant locations from past games, such as the Raccoon City Police Department building, which was featured in “Resident Evil 2”. In the meantime, take a look at our analysis of the newest trailer.
