Resident Evil: Requiem Might Be Bringing Back A Forgotten Character

At last, the Summer Game Fest unveiled the long-anticipated trailer for what is now known as “Resident Evil: Requiem”. Unlike previous spin-offs such as Resident Evil 7 with Ethan Winters, it seems the protagonist of this game, Grace Ashcroft, is deeply rooted in the series’ history. In fact, many fans may recall her name from Capcom’s earlier works.

Fervent followers may have taken notice upon hearing the mention of Ashcroft, as this name holds significance within the realm of the Resident Evil series.

In the year 2004, Capcom unveiled a multiplayer survival horror game titled “Resident Evil Outbreak“. This was the initial game in the series to offer cooperative and online functionality, although some European regions encountered difficulties with the online connection. The game boasts eight playable characters, one of whom is Alyssa Ashcroft.

It’s time for some intriguing details. As of Resident Evil 7, it’s established that Alyssa is still alive. This is confirmed through a newspaper article written by her dated January 19th, 2016. However, in the latest trailer for Resident Evil: Requiem, Grace’s commander mentions that “Alyssa passed away eight years ago.” He also suggests that a hotel, where he’s sending Grace to investigate, is the same place where Alyssa was murdered.

Although it’s not definitively stated that Alyssa is Grace’s mother, the trailer implies a familial connection between them. Capcom might be playing coy with the trailer, but it certainly suggests that Grace and Alyssa are related in some capacity. The intrigue lies in whether or not we’ll get to see Alyssa in Resident Evil: Requiem.

The teaser implies scenes recalling a distressing experience from Grace’s history. Additionally, rumors point to Leon Kennedy being the main character in Requiem. Furthermore, the trailer depicts a ruined Raccoon City, which could suggest that we may control Grace both before and after the destruction of this well-known city.

If that’s how it goes, there might be a chance I’ll bump into Alyssa in a couple of instances. As for the rest of the crew from Outbreak, fingers crossed we get to see Kevin, David, Yoko, and the whole squad again. It would be awesome to have them back on a mission, though it seems a bit far-fetched if they all managed to make it through.

Regardless of the approach, it’s clear that anticipation among fans for “Resident Evil: Requiem” is already running high before its release. So far, all we’ve got is a tantalizing four-minute trailer. Capcom seems to be delving into intricate details right off the bat, which promises an exciting unraveling of events. Could we see a return of beloved characters? Fervently hoping, fans are eagerly awaiting more news from Capcom about Jill Valentine potentially regaining her prominence in the series’ limelight. For now, we can only speculate.

Luckily for us, it seems we won’t need to wait too much longer. The developer revealed during Summer Game Fest that “Resident Evil: Requiem” will be playable at Gamescom in August. They also disclosed the official release date, which is February 27th, 2026. So, while we have a long wait ahead, you’ll have plenty of time to find and enjoy “Outbreak” before Alyssa makes her grand return.
