Resistance 4 Pitch Was Rejected by Sony, Says Former Insomniac CEO

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but marvel at Insomniac Games’ current focus on “Marvel’s Spider-Man” and the upcoming “Marvel’s Wolverine”. With rumors swirling about more Marvel-related projects in the pipeline, it’s an exciting time to be a fan!

However, while there’s talk of a new “Ratchet and Clank” on the horizon, it seems like their post-apocalyptic shooter franchise, “Resistance”, might be taking a break for now. I can’t help but hope for its return in the future!

As a devoted fan, I’m sharing some intriguing insights from Ted Price’s recent conversation with Kinda Funny Gamescast (as reported by WCCF Tech). In this chat, Ted disclosed that Insomniac proposed the concept of Resistance 4, but Sony decided against giving it the go-ahead. He attributed this decision to issues concerning “timing and market opportunity.

Resistance 4” – A Concept We Proposed with Great Enthusiasm

It turned out to be an exciting idea, one that we put forward with great zeal. However, it seemed that the timing and market conditions weren’t ideal for its release. This was largely due to the enthusiasm of many Insomniac team members who were eager to continue the narrative.

In my opinion, “Resistance” has created an engaging alternate history setting for the Chimera, a place where their actions and origins remain unpredictable. Over numerous sessions, we’ve delved into their backstory, generating ideas about potential directions for the narrative, and I am truly captivated by this universe.

I had the privilege of serving as Creative Director for the initial ‘Resistance’ series, an experience that I will never forget, with its fair share of both positive and challenging moments. During this development phase, we all learned valuable lessons on how to excel under pressure and in adverse conditions.

Is there a possibility that it might occur in the future? Price expresses his optimism, as he really wants to witness this tale unfold more extensively.

I hold this topic close to my heart, for it’s filled with fascinating aspects. The creators of Resistance 3 designed it as a conclusion to the franchise, focusing on Capelli and tying up loose ends from smaller storylines. This was done to give us flexibility in case we decided to create more Resistance games or pursue another direction.

Working on a franchise for an extended period can become routine. Yet, there’s something satisfying about moving on to new projects and then returning to the familiar. Fortunately, being part of Sony, which owns the rights to Resistance, ensures we always have the chance to revisit this cherished series. If another opportunity arises in the future, as a fan, I’ll undoubtedly look forward to it with great anticipation.

The series, “Resistance,” was initially introduced in 2006 with the game “Resistance: Fall of Man” on PS3, set in an alternate timeline where humans battled against extraterrestrial beings called Chimera. This game was met with positive reviews from critics and achieved significant commercial success. Following this, Insomniac Games released two more main titles – “Resistance 2” and “Resistance 3.” Spin-offs of the series include “Resistance: Retribution” for the PSP and “Resistance: Burning Skies” on PlayStation Vita.
