Starting May 20th, Sony is taking down Resistance: Fall of Man and its sequel, Resistance 2, from their library of games accessible via PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscriptions. These Insomniac Games titles will no longer be playable on PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 consoles after this date, as reported by PushSquare.
Fans of the classic Resistance franchise may find this a disappointing turn of events, as currently, the only means to play both Resistance: Fall of Man and its sequel is through PlayStation Plus Premium. Without owning the physical discs for these games and a PS3 console, access becomes limited due to the fact that the PS3’s PlayStation Network servers have already been shut down, making it impossible to obtain digital copies of Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 in this manner.
Each year, Sony typically removes games from their service, but they usually steer clear of deleting their first-party titles. Instead, they often concentrate on removing some third-party games, possibly due to the expiration of licenses and agreements. Surprisingly, both Resistance 3 and Resistance Retribution can still be played using PlayStation Plus Premium.
There’s been no formal announcement from either Sony or Insomniac about removing “Resistance: Fall of Man” and “Resistance 2” from their subscription service. Although this might fuel speculation among fans that a remastered version could be in development for newer platforms, until Sony provides an official update, the possibility seems remote at the moment.
In February, the ex-CEO of Insomniac Studios, Ted Price, shared that they were planning a fourth primary installment for the Resistance series. However, their proposal didn’t get approval from Sony.
Price commented on “Resistance 4”, stating that they had proposed this idea which turned out to be quite intriguing. However, in terms of timing and market conditions, it didn’t pan out. What made it happen was a great deal of enthusiasm among Insomniac team members for continuing the narrative.
While Sony continues to remove games from its PlayStation Plus service, it’s also been raising the cost of subscriptions in different regions. For instance, Australia, South Korea, as well as Southeast Asian nations like Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia have all experienced a price increase across all subscription tiers. This follows a similar price adjustment that was previously announced for 15 Latin American countries.
