Returnal Receives Surprise PS5 Pro Support in New Patch

To mark the fourth year since the release of their rogue-like third-person shooter game Returnal, developer Housemarque has introduced a new update, now supporting the PS5 Pro console. Although details are scarce, this upgrade promises to deliver “2.5 times” the pixels on Sony’s advanced console for an enhanced and clearer gaming experience.

In April 2021, Returnal was first introduced for PlayStation 5 and will later be available on PC in February 2023. This game tells the tale of Selene, whose spacecraft crashes onto an enigmatic planet named Atropos. In her pursuit to decipher a cryptic signal called the “White Shadow,” Selene encounters bizarre memories from her past life. Unlike typical death scenarios in games, death doesn’t provide an escape in this one, instead it intertwines with the storyline and follows the rogue-like game structure.

The game Returnal was praised extensively at its release for its combat, stunning visuals, engrossing plot, and thrilling boss battles. Take a look at our reviews for both the PS5 and PC versions. The developers at Housemarque are currently working on Saros, which will further develop the rogue-like mechanics while introducing a new hero and setting. Look forward to its release in 2026, with more details, including gameplay, being unveiled later this year.
