Enthusiasts of PlayStation are taken aback by the news that a classic PS2 game, Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, is coming back to PS5 and PS4 this week. In their latest State of Play event in September, PlayStation hinted at re-releasing this popular game from the PS1 era on contemporary platforms before the end of 2024. The return of this emblematic title will pave the way for the launch of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1-2 Remastered, expected in early December. In addition to this exciting news, PlayStation has another surprise in store for longtime fans of the Legacy of Kain franchise that should excite old-school PS2 players.
Starting from this week, both PS5 and PS4 consoles are getting back the classic games – “Blood Omen 2” and “Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain”. Originally launched in 2002 for the PS2, “Blood Omen 2” served as a sequel that connected the storylines from the initial “Blood Omen” with the “Soul Reaver” series within the Legend of Kain universe. A much-loved game by fans over the years, it’s now set to return on the PlayStation Store on November 19th this week.

It’s unexpected that Blood Omen 2 is launching on PS5 and PS4, as PlayStation hadn’t suggested this game would be released on these platforms at all earlier. While it was known that the first Blood Omen game would come to current-generation PlayStation systems, the PS2 sequel was thought to have been confined to the past. However, its comeback means that almost the entire Legacy of Kain series will be playable on contemporary hardware when Soul Reaver 1-2 Remastered is released in just a few weeks.
Typically, “Blood Omen 2” will be offered for free to PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers. For those not subscribed, it can be purchased individually through the PS Store, which is expected to cost around $9.99.
