Revealed: Warner Bros. Axed Racy Minecraft Movie Scenes

According to a new report, Warner Bros. censored some of Minecraft‘s more racy scenes.

In 2025, a film titled “A Minecraft Movie” has emerged as one of the year’s most successful Hollywood productions. Some have likened it to a modern version of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show“, appealing particularly to younger audiences by encouraging audience participation during certain key scenes.

As a dedicated Minecraft Movie enthusiast, I can’t help but reminisce about the electrifying impact of the Chicken Jockey introduction scene. The roar of applause and, at times, the flying popcorn and treats, all adding to the cinematic chaos that was palpable in the theater. But there were possibly other moments, equally viral, that the movie could’ve showcased but decided to keep tucked away.

How Warner Bros Censored A Minecraft Movie

Warner Bros. reportedly censored some scenes from A Minecraft Movie.

In my critique as a movie connoisseur, I must share an intriguing revelation about the highly-anticipated adaptation of Minecraft. As per insider reports from Puck’s Matthew Belloni, the production studio appears to have undergone substantial alterations in the film before its release. Initially, the movie was reportedly more edgy, but subsequent feedback from test audiences led to a cleaner, less provocative version, as aptly described by Belloni: “An earlier cut was decidedly racier, yet it ultimately underwent a transformation, becoming more sanitized.

“Fun fact: An earlier cut was much racier but was sanitized after test audiences hated that stuff.”

It’s no wonder at all that a Minecraft film contained adult content, considering the filmmakers behind it have a history of creating humor with a more mature slant.

Director Jared Hess is primarily recognized for his work on humorous films such as “Napoleon Dynamite” and “Nacho Libre,” which, unlike the final product of “Minecraft,” have a more mature theme.

One of these Minecraft-created scenes surfaced online, showcasing characters that resemble Jack Black’s Steve and Jason Momoa’s Garrett. In this scene, they are seen in somewhat awkward situations as they flee from the wicked Piglin troops.

What Else Was Cut From A Minecraft Movie?

This racy content was not the only thing cut from A Minecraft Movie

Multiple online sources have revealed details about discarded elements in the development of Minecraft, such as appearances by prominent influencers, alternate backstories for key characters, and even some thrilling action scenes that didn’t make it to the final version.

Since its release, the movie has debuted some of these moments for fans to ogle over.

Originally, the scene was intended to depict that the character played by Steve from Black had previously worked in an office, and part of a song was actually filmed to go along with this setting.

In simpler terms, Director Jared Hess disclosed an unused scene where a robot resembling a pig was utilized as a deceptive vehicle to penetrate the opposition’s defenses.

In his conversation with TechRadar, Hess mentioned a scene featuring a colossal robot resembling a Piglin, which served as a disguise of sorts. Although they carefully planned this sequence using storyboards and even prepared detailed animatics, sadly, it didn’t make it into the final film.

Indeed, we planned many entertaining scenes for the project. A well-known Minecraft YouTuber, Mumbo Jumbo, who is an expert in Redstone, was developing a fascinating sequence that unfortunately didn’t materialize. There was a scene featuring a colossal Piglin robot, functioning as a Trojan horse using Redstone technology. I had designed storyboards for it, and we even prepared animatics for the sequence, making it quite amusing. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, we couldn’t bring this idea to life.

It has been noticed that a brief appearance from well-known video game streamer Valkyrae was initially planned for the movie, but ultimately did not appear in the final cut. The reasons behind this edit remain unknown (as reported by IGN). Some people have conjectured that her cameo was cut due to her past criticisms of the film’s lead actor, Jason Momoa, but these allegations lack evidence.

The concept art for Minecraft appears to suggest that the well-known antagonist from the Ender series, the Ender Dragon, could be featured in the game. This implies that if a sequel to the Minecraft movie ever happens, the presence of the Ender Dragon might serve as an intriguing plot point to carry forward.

From my perspective as a movie critic, had the final edit included the previously unknown detail about Jack Black voicing a chatty pig instead of the human character Steve in “A Minecraft Movie”, the film would have taken an entirely new direction. This unexpected twist would have undeniably added a fresh layer to the storyline.

During an interview with Variety, executive producer Torfi Frans Olafsson shared that initially, Black’s character was designed as a talking pig. It wasn’t until quite late in the production process that the team came up with the concept of transforming this character into Steve.

Initially, the character was designed as a talking pig, but quite late in the process we decided to change it into Steve, as we required an expert and host for our project. This isn’t just any Steve or your Steve; this is Jack Black’s portrayal of Steve. When fans saw the early previews, many commented, “Hold on a second – this is just Jack Black! This isn’t him playing a different character.” Perhaps this confusion arises because Jack is fully embodying this character and making it his own interpretation.

In the end, these modifications turned out to be beneficial since the film strikes a chord with people everywhere. It’s good news for those eager to re-live the excitement that, as far as we know, A Minecraft Movie is not planning to depart from cinemas any time soon.
