Rey Mysterio Wants Mask vs. Mullet and Mustache Match Against Dominik Mysterio to Complete WWE Trilogy

As a lifelong WWE fan with decades of watching lucha libre legends like Rey Mysterio, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and nostalgia at the prospect of a Mask vs. Mullet and Mustache match between father and son. The drama between Dominik Mysterio and his iconic dad has been gripping, to say the least, and it’s been a rollercoaster ride since that fateful night at WWE Clash at the Castle 2022.

Dominik Mysterio is determined to defeat his estranged father. At the WWE Clash at the Castle 2022, the wrestler from a famous lineage betrayed his dad, Rey Mysterio, attacking him in front of the Welsh spectators and joining The Judgment Day. This marked the start of an eight-month conflict, culminating at WWE WrestleMania 39. Despite Rey’s refusal to fight his son, he was eventually pushed to his limits just before the Immortals Showcase and agreed to a bout, which he won. In July of this year, Rey bested Dominik again in a one-on-one competition on WWE Monday Night Raw.

Rey Mysterio Pitches Mask vs. Mullet and Mustache Match

In the upcoming third match between him and his son, the renowned wrestler is eager for significant rewards at stake.

At Fanatics Fest in New York City, Rey Mysterio told ComicBook that he’s prepared to risk taking off his mask for a potential third match against his son, Dominik Mysterio.

If the trilogy occurs and it does, Rey is ready to risk her mask. Similarly, since he cherishes his mullet dearly, he might also risk it. Or perhaps his mustache, which he calls a “Dirty Sanchez.”

In response to Liam Crowley’s suggestion from ComicBook, Rey showed great excitement as the idea was floated that Dominik might lose either his mullet or mustache in the hypothetical third installment.

At present, Dominik is deeply involved in conflicts between different factions within The Judgment Day. Recently at the WWE SummerSlam event, Dominik betrayed his longtime partner Rhea Ripley and joined forces with the current WWE Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan. Shortly after, Finn Balor caused Damian Priest to lose the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. These events led to a reformed Judgment Day team consisting of Dominik, Morgan, Balor, Carlito, and JD McDonagh. Meanwhile, Ripley and Priest have split off to form their own duo, The Terror Twins, pursuing their own power-driven agenda.

For several months now, Rey has frequently faced off against The Judgment Day, yet he hasn’t engaged in a major live premium event feud since the WWE WrestleMania 40, where he partnered with Andrade to defeat Santos Escobar and Dominik. At the age of 49, Rey’s wrestling career is approaching its end, and he contemplated retiring as recently as 2019; however, his son Dominik persuaded him to continue wrestling. Since then, Rey has participated in over 250 matches and spent minimal time recovering from injuries.
