RHOC’s Vicki Gunvalson Details Memory Loss After “Deadly” Health Scare

As someone who has closely followed Vicki Gunvalson‘s journey over the years on “The Real Housewives of Orange County,” I have to say that this recent health scare has put things into perspective for me. Watching her go through this ordeal, from the stroke-like symptoms to the terrifying moment when Michael found her seemingly unconscious in the bath, has been a stark reminder of how fragile life can be.

Vicki Gunvalson is lucky to be alive after a recent health scare.

Last week, a star from The Real Housewives of Orange County disclosed that she experienced symptoms similar to a stroke while working at her insurance office located in Southern California.

On the August 26th episode of her podcast, “My Friend, My Soulmate, My Podcast”, Vicki admitted that she had a client visit who claimed she was speaking nonsense, and in response, she composed an email that also seemed unclear.

It wasn’t until Olivia, Michael Smith’s daughter, hinted at the possibility that her behavior could resemble a stroke, that the reality star became aware of it and realized she had been acting oddly.

“I don’t remember anything,” the 62-year-old added, “and she took me to the hospital.”

As an over-the-moon fan, I can share that Vicki herself revealed she’d been hit by a sinus infection, leaving her place. Little did we know, this ordinary day would take an unexpected turn. Later on, the compassionate Michael discovered Vicki, who appeared to be in an unconscious state at home.

On the podcast, Michael shared that one of the most unsettling moments for him occurred when Vicki, who was also there with cohost Christian Gray Snow, expressed a sudden desire to take a bath. Unbeknownst to him, Vicki had already slipped into the tub and filled it with water. When he walked in, she appeared to be unconscious. Michael quickly reacted by pulling her out of the water, fearing for her life, and placing her in bed.

The next day, Vicki visited the doctor again and got a much more serious diagnosis.

“She had a massive infection,” Michael revealed. “It was actually sepsis but it was pneumonia.”

In simpler terms, he said that when your body is battling such a severe infection, it mobilizes all its resources to combat it. This process not only impacts the infection site but also affects other parts of your body, including your brain, because every available resource is directed towards the fight against the infection.

Vicki just found out from her neurologist’s office that the infection she has is quite severe following their recent conversation.

In the show, the Bravolebrity expressed her shock by saying, “Was that correct? I was told I had only a 10 to 20 percent chance of survival?” She then confirmed with Christian that she indeed survived a potentially fatal case of sepsis. The Bravolebrity was assured, “Yes, you’re fortunate to have made it through because sepsis is life-threatening. It might take some time, but you’ll be alright.”

As for how Vicki’s doing today?

She mentioned that her energy is almost depleted. Michael has been amazingly helpful by ensuring she takes her medications since she often forgets. She’s getting plenty of sleep—perhaps too much—but can’t muster the strength to walk at the moment. It feels like she’s experiencing symptoms similar to a stroke. Just recently, she went through three days without any recollection, which is quite bizarre, as if someone had erased those days from her calendar.
