RHOP’s Karen Huger Sentenced to 1 Year in Prison

Karen Huger‘s fate has been decided.

Two months after a court found “The Real Housewives of Potomac” star guilty on most charges stemming from her March 2024 DUI arrest, the TV personality was formally sentenced by a judge in Montgomery County, Maryland during a February 26 hearing. According to Fox 5 News Washington D.C., she received a two-year prison sentence with one year suspended.

According to a Fox 5 courtroom reporter, Karen is sentenced to spend a year in prison, followed by another year without driving privileges. Additionally, she’ll be on probation for five years after her release from imprisonment.

Citing her history of three prior DUI convictions, prosecutors initially requested a sentence from the judge that included two years behind bars, with an additional six months suspended, in relation to Karen’s most recent arrest as a celebrity.

Last March, Huger collided with street signs near Bethesda, Maryland, having veered across the median while driving. The 61-year-old was indicted for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol; impaired driving due to alcohol; negligent operation of a motor vehicle in a reckless and careless manner that endangered life, property, and persons; and reckless driving with disregard for the safety of people and property, as well as several other charges related to these offenses, according to records from Maryland Judiciary obtained by TopMob News.

On the day following her apprehension, Karen chose to voice her thoughts, offering a glimpse into her psychological condition prior to the event and explaining how she has been managing since then.

She expressed her gratitude for everyone’s prayers and kind thoughts during this terrifying ordeal, she told TMZ. Even though I am still stunned from last night’s event, I am thankful to be alive today. The loss of my dear mother has brought waves of sorrow, but with Mother’s Day coming up, it feels more like a massive tidal wave.

On my journey home, tears streamed down my face, and a vehicle seemed to be barreling towards me. To avoid a head-on crash, I swiftly veered off course. Unfortunately, this action led me to collide with a divider and then a tree. Though I’m banged up and hurting, I am incredibly thankful for my life! Remarkably, the car that almost claimed me simply drove off without stopping.

Even though only reckless driving charges were not proven against Huger in December, his legal team promised to persistently challenge the court ruling.

Regarding the jury’s verdict, which we find unfortunate, attorney A. Scott Bolden stated in a December statement to People, “We acknowledge their decision and value their efforts in considering our case. We will maintain Mrs. Huger’s right to an appeal and will vigorously pursue justice for her. We thank you for your support and prayers during this challenging period for Mrs. Huger and her family.

Due to her current legal predicaments, Karen has decided to focus on resolving personal matters by seeking treatment at a recovery center. Consequently, she opted out of attending the reunion for the ninth season of the reality series.

According to Ryan Tresdale, Karen’s manager, she chose to enroll in a private recovery program, which prevented her from attending the taping of the reunion today. Everyone is fully supportive of this decision. We stand by Karen as she embarks on this important journey and are proud of her for taking such a substantial step towards personal development.

The Real Housewives of Potomac airs Sundays at 8 p.m. on Bravo.
